2012... you have my promise
unless I am dead or for some reason I cannot make it to the polls (like being in an ER) you can count on me voting. even voting for Obama if he runs.

No, not because I am impressed so far by the leadership... all this talk of compromise with people who cannot be compromised with is truly a weakness as far as the voter is concerned.

I will be there because it is MY CIVIC duty. It was drilled into me while I was growing up... you FUCKING SHOW UP... It is something you just do. It is a civic culture that does not exist in the US. Part of our discussion should be how the fucking hell do we create it?

As is, I give up in this country. Yes, there are differences between the two parties, but as long as the conventional wisdom in DC is to compromise with back yard dogs... forget it.

We are in for a very dark time. Hell, we may even see the fall of empire before 2012, that is like official and shit, because of a few of the tea baggers now in Congress, in particular one man... but that is another story.

1. My promise too, as well as a promise
never to quit complaining, never to quit demanding action.

I know we've heard that "the pefect is the enemy of the good," but maybe "compromising with evil is also the enemy of the good."

2. None of the crap that has happened would stop me from voting. If anything it makes me more

determined to get out and vote!!
I hope that we will retain that right..and somehow we can be assured that our votes count.

I heard that this election was determined by only 38% of the electorate. That is beyond horrifying...
People have died..literally..so we have the right to vote..and the VAST MAJORITY of Americans do not even bother!!! Sickening..Really.

42% voted. Almost 2/3 of the American public who could vote, did not bother.

6. Yes and that culture at one time existed
I asked yesterday why the kids don't vote.

I got the usual answers.

Well it comes down to what we teach kids... they really do not get it... it is a DUTY... a responsibility, not something you do after a game of warcraft maybe. And it's not just the kids... plenty of middle age people don't show up either. Hell NOT voting is a matter of pride. Me vote? Why the hell should I do that? It's not like it matters and shit... :sarcasm:

And as long as that is the dominant attitude...

8. Gotcha.
I'll vote too and I'll vote either Dem or Independent, whoever is more progressive. Since we lose no matter who the heck we vote for, I'm voting my conscience from here on in.

9. Well, here's a question for you
Three candidates:

R

D

and

I

The I candidate more matches your philosophy than the D, but the R is a total piece of shit. Polls put the support at

R - 40%

D - 37%

I - 15%

Un - 8%

MOE is 4%.

The I is a good candidate in terms of the issues you care about but it's clear that under the existing system, she can't win. She can't raise money and she's not very "charismatic." But she'd be terrific in the job.

The D is kinda weak on a few issues you care about, but he's staying up there with the R. There's no doubt that he would be better than the R, but not nearly as good as the I.

The R is horrible, far right on all the issues that mean the most to you, but party unity will put him in office easily because liberals will split their votes between the D and the I.

Who would you vote for in that case? More important, who would you campaign for? And most important, what would you recommend to the D party apparatus if you could?
