I think many DUers have conveniently forgotten that
THIS HAPPENS EVERY MIDTERM. The party in power loses seats and sometimes control of Congress.

Damn, people, it could have been SO much worse than this.

1. Last night was the biggest House swing since 1948.
It was pretty bad.

30. Which means what?
So it was a big swing. That doesn't change the fact that we still have the Senate.

If we lost the majority by one seat rather than a few dozen, it would amount to the same thing. They aren't veto-proof, so we're okay.

the Senate and House have spilt and that hasn't happened since 1914.
I think it's not as bad as most people seem to think.

I forget the world is flat. I forget that my home in infested with unicorns. And yes, I have conveniently forgotten that this was a normal mid-term election.

I'm really curious because on the house side, this is worse that '94.

21. 1994. Republicans got control of the House AND Senate
It is difficult to claim that losing the house and keeping the senate is "worse" than losing both chambers.

The final numbers on the senate aren't in yet. But we haven't had at "controlling majority" in the senate at all.

32. The size of the loss doesn't matter if
they didn't get a veto-proof majority. You're making a mistake thinking the size of the swing really means anything. It doesn't.

And we'll be FINE in the senate. It's virtually impossible to get a controlling majority there anymore. Unless the rules change.

40. We'll get nothing passed
The size "matters". The greater the majority, the less than any one member can screw around with things. It empowers the leadership.

But keep whistling past the grave yard.

34. Known facts:
IN 1994, we lost control of both houses. Both houses.

How is that not worse that losing one house? Especially when that loss does not include a veto-proof majority?

Damn, the pessimism here is staggering. No wonder we lost.

39. The House loss was the worst since 1948. That's a fact.
What makes it worse is this: President Obama is no Truman, and he's no Clinton. Obama has unemployment at nearly 10%. In 1994, the economy was much more solid than now.

42. Oh, please
We gave back what we gained in 2006 and 2008. Obama inherited a MESS and he's done pretty well so far in starting to clean it up.

There are no miracles. Name one person who could be doing a better job right now. Realistically. Someone who could have gotten the cooperation of both parties, both houses, and the public at the same time.

Obama is doing just about as well as can be expected. And he now has a scapegoat if things get worse.

43. Oh, bullshit.
The president spent the past two years making unnecessary concessions to the GOP and alienating his constituents. When we needed a second stim package and another jobs program, we got a cat food aka deficit commission, instead.

He gave away his mandate by being indecisive and weak. If he had been strong enough to push through his agenda, instead of allowing the GOP to set the agenda, we would not have suffered such huge losses. This is HIS loss. He did this. People who voted for him two years ago repudiated the party he heads.

you blame the President for GOP stonewalling and Blue Dog chicanery. HE DID NOT HAVE THE VOTES to do what he wanted to do, yet he managed to squeeze them out for some historic legislation.

Jesus, what were you expecting? That he'd wave a magic wand and suddenly make Washington work differently?

But I get your horrifying point. :hi:
