It was a Challenge to Vote this Election Cycle

Could it ever be this way??


I got up this morning with a lightness to my step knowing I was getting a chance to vote, a chance to help decide the future. Even thou being unemployed and having the whole day to accomplish this task I wanted to get an early start.

Stepping out the door I soon knew that this would not be a normal election day. Greeting me on first sight was my Democratic election signs burning brightly in the morning light. I thought to myself this might really turn out to be an interesting day. Glancing left and right I noticed a group of people aways away. Not taking any chances I ran to my 15 year old van so I could get to my polling place.

Good thing I did, for as soon as they saw me the mob stared to run towards me cursing to give them back their country. Nothing like a little excitement to get the blood flowing in this old body. Having to drive fast and swerving around the mob I was able to get out of the neighborhood with little more than just a few dents in the van from a couple of baseball bats.

Once getting to the polling place I noticed armed guards standing in front of the doors. Good thing they are protecting the voters I thought. Now if I can get through the crowd on the sidewalk everything will be okay. How wrong could one person be.

Knowing it was my responsibility to vote, I lowered my head and walked towards the doors. Pushed, shoved, called gay lover, vote the right way or be sorry, Muslim lover. They must have noticed my Obama bumper sticker. I was glad to finally get to the doors.

Before letting me in I was asked for my papers. “Papers”??, I said.

“Yea, we need to know if you have the right to vote.” Having a very good tan, I could understand their confusion. I showed them my passport, birth certificate, drivers license, and gave them a blood sample After they ran checks on all these things they they finally let me in through the doors. Telling me if I was not who I said I would be arrested, handcuffed, head stomped, and deported. I should have figured out something was a little amiss when I finally noticed that they were wearing republican stickers on their nifty military uniforms.

After filling out the Terrorist information form I finally was handed my ballot. Things were finally looking up. I was looking at the ballot and noticed it was already filled out for me. How nice they were trying to save me time. After stepping into the voting booth I reached into the hidden pocket of my jacket and pulled out a blank ballot. Filled it in, stepped out of the booth, ran it through the counting machine and then walked back out into the sun lit day.

Before falling asleep that night I wondered if it will be this much fun in two years or if this country will still be here in two years.

I need to thank rush limbaugh, glenn beck, the Supreme Court, sharron angle, rand paul, ms. Whitman, sarah palin, g.w. bush, dick cheney, and all the others that made voting such an adventure.
