Not just used for medical care, but the idea that we can go back to a simpler time and eliminate all of the progress that's been made in modern life.

I hope I can claim invention of a new phrase.

I had my first conversation with an honest to God tea partier who really bought that Sharon Angle line.

1. I love the chicken comparison.
It's totally "from each according to ability, to each according to need."

4. Well, I'm a Koch Brother compared to you.
Only 9 chickens, but also 9 ducks, 6 turkeys, and about 70 quail. Plus six doves in the house.

Poultry rich. Cash poor. C'est la vie.

3. Actually, if you want to really blow the TP's mind ask
him if he would rather go even further back in time to when all goods in a village or community were shared and distributed to everyone. In most hunter gatherer societies, whatever is hunted or gathered is redistributed to everyone including to those who did nothing in the hunt like children, the elderly and handicapped. Communism is actually in our genes and true to our real nature. Also, as trade with other tribes and communities came about, so did the invention of money, usually things of value that were more portable like silver, gold and gems, so I don't think we are going to be paying with goods very much in the future anyway unless it's in symbols over the internet. For instance a chicken icon could have a value the same as a bread icon, etc. etc. and etc.. It also begs the question as to why the chicken farmer didn't just sell the chicken for coin and then give the money to the doctor for his services.

5. And, with the kind of schedules GP/Family Practice doctors work
How many of them have time to deal with cleaning and cooking their payments?

I guess they could pass them along to the office staff. Who can than use them to pay their mortgage and credit card payments, and so on and so forth.

Do you think that parking meters and toll booths can be adapted to take chickens? How about the self-checkout at the big box retailers like Home Depot -- cash, card, or chicken?

God, these people are dumber than a box of rocks. Don't get me wrong, I live an old-fashioned lifestyle by choice in many, many ways -- enormous garden, I can and freeze and preserve, cook from scratch, raise poultry for eggs, etc., but that doesn't mean I think our society should all live this way -- frankly, most people couldn't hack it, it's a lot of work. I do it because it's a lifestyle choice as well as a hobby, fulfilling my fantasy of being a farmer by night and on weekends. But, I have a "real" job during the week to pay the bills -- not with chickens, I may add.
