4 kids injured in head-on crash recovering without mom and dad
BOISE -- It's been about a week-and-a-half since Javier Macedo died and his four children were injured when a wrong-way driver hit his mini-van head-on on Interstate 84. His wife is out of the country, deported in January. Javier's four children are all now recovering at St. Luke's from their serious injuries, but they're going to have to do it without their mother and father.
"I don't know why this is happening," said 17-year-old Emily Ibarra Macedo.
Emily, along with her 14-year-old brother Javier, 8-year-old sister Ashley, and 4-year-old brother Joshua, are all now in stable condition. But there's still plenty of physical recovery ahead for these four. But there's mental and emotional recovery ahead too, as they are still haunted by the memories of that night.
"I remember waking up and I didn't think it was real, I thought it was a nightmare," said Emily. "I could hear this moaned screaming in the back of my mind, in the back of my head, I mean. I heard my brother crying, my little brother Joshua. And then, I saw my dad next to me. And I was like, looking at him. And I asked the people, 'Is he OK? Is he OK?' But they wouldn't, they wouldn't answer me."
