A huge middle finger to my mom's employer
She was recently notified they will no longer be providing retirements for their full time employees.
No more profit sharing, no contributions to the 401k....nada.

If you'd also like to flip them the bird, feel free to like this message.

I bet a # of you are already boycotting this place of business.
It's the largest retailer in the U.S.

As if I already didn't hate them enough, they've given me plenty of ammunition.

I also learned the fu**ers canceled my health insurance but that will SOON be straightened out.

Fucking capitalist SOBs.

4. She can cash it out or roll it over.
I'm not all that familiar with retirement stuff but she was pretty bummed about it.
She's been with them since before I was born.

I don't see her changing companies anytime soon, even though I keep telling her she needs to.

13. Make sure she is careful with what she does with it. I don't like the sound of "cashing out"...
...as that implies a taxable event that she may have to pay taxes on if she is under 59 1/2. Best bet is to have her talk to a financial professional about her options and decline any "helpful advice" being offered her by ShitMart as to what to do...

At least that seems to be the theme around here lately.

Everything is a matter of individual responsibility. EVERYTHING

20. No, they just have to stand by their policy
As long as I am in college and under 26, I can be on my mom's plan.
It was that way before HCR.

.. to your mother for having to work there. I haven't in one of those crap holes in over a dozen years and will never set foot in one again. Thankfully, our town stopped them from building here.

12. Maybe you can get some folks on DU to blame her for choosing to work there.
I do not. She had a job, she took care of her family. But castigating folks who end up damaged by their choices seems to be the sport Du Jour.

Do you have a document, letter stating this in writing. I ask because there is nothing coming up for this. I would love to post this everywhere if there is. I have not stepped foot in a Walmart for almost nine years now!!!

14. Unfortunately it is the way of this country.
Small business has had to give up on retirement for quite some time in my world. Big business will do whatever they please and walk away. It sucks to be middle aged these days but I think the young ones will have an even darker battle.

16. walmart increasing international workforce on the backs of us workforce
Plans to Increase Global Workforce by 36% in Five-Years

It's yet another nod to international growth as opposed to a U.S. focus. It seems there is a real internal push to guide market expectations towards the WMT international opportunity, in an attempt to re-energize the stock (either way, it's not going to be a growth stock that commands a 20x plus P/E multiple)...

I also think the U.S. worker base may bare the load of all this international hiring, which is painful to say. WMT has done a strong job implementing its employee hour scheduling, where people are brought on at higher traffic periods rather than having them sit around and not be productive on off peak times. The savings for international hiring and expansion will have to come from somewhere, and I think it's from the U.S. worker base and maybe, some store closures in the U.S. (this is just a thought I have been pondering).

17. 401k no longer needed....
It was only a vehicle to get more middle class money into the stock market.

Once the coffers were fat...Wall Street snakes and the Banksters emptied the account by making risky investment vehicles and passing them off as solid.

Now that the value has been extracted...they are no longer needed. They will never be full again.

24. Fuck the Walton Family....
that's who is behind this. Greedy, fucking leeches. They should be made to work in a Chinese sweat shop. They have more wealth than the entire bottom 1/3rd of Americans.

It's sickening. May they be forced to eat their money to survive.
