Louisiana: Richmond Leads Cao By 11 Points

By John McArdle | October 5, 2010 7:55 PM

Some rare good news for Democrats came in the form of a new poll, commissioned by liberal website Daily Kos, that showed Democrats still on tarLouisiana: Richmond Leads Cao By 11 Pointsget to take back Louisiana's 2nd district this fall.

State Rep. Cedric Richmond (D) led Rep. Anh "Joseph" Cao (R) 49 percent to 38 percent in the New Orleans-based district, with 13 percent undecided. The survey of 605 likely voters was conducted Oct. 2-3 by the Democratic polling firm Public Policy Polling. It had a 4 point margin of error.

The majority-black 2nd district -- which President Barack Obama carried with 75 percent in the 2008 presidential race -- has long been at the top of Democratic target lists.

The PPP survey was in the field at the same time that Richmond went up with his first campaign ad, which featured Obama.

1. I think it was clear Cao was a temporary placeholder
A reaction to freezer-cash gate. He even voted yes on the health bill. Easy pickup for the Dems.

2. We should pick up 3 definitely although the Dems are saying 5. I know of this one -
Cao's seat will flip. We will win Castle's old seat in Delaware. We will pick up the seat in Hawaii that we lost because we split the vote earlier.

I'm not sure who the other 2 flips to D are that the Democratic officials said we will win.

That means Republicans need either 42 or 44 to actually take control.
