Ben Nelson Calls For Bipartisan Camp David Fiscal Summit, Full Tax Cut Extension

Senator Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) traveled to the conservative Heritage Institute on Wednesday to make the case once again that Congress should pass a full extension of the Bush tax cuts, at least until the economy turns around.

This is nothing new, even if the setting for the declaration was a bit off for a Democrat. Nelson voted for the Bush tax cuts in the first place and has been a leading skeptic of President Obama's plan to extend them only for those earning less than $250,000.

What stood out in the address was how the Nebraska Democrat tried to carve out a role as a Democratic emissary to the conservative crowd. Nelson told the crowd, according to an advance copy of his remarks, that he had written Obama recently encouraging him to host a bipartisan, bicameral summit on taxes, spending and the deficit.

"I suggested holding a private discussion, free of posturing and playing to the cameras, perhaps at Camp David," Nelson said. "If that setting could lead to the Camp David accords, why not the Camp David agreements?"

Since when does this guy speak for us?

4. Did you know that zero is an important number?
Edited on Wed Sep-29-10 08:48 PM by LiberalAndProud
It's true. If you try to multiply without reserving a space with the zero, you end up with a totally wrong answer.

It's how I reconcile myself. Some days.

AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH!

21. He'd be one among many.
He's can be (and has been) a deal breaker for the Dems for years. He often puts his personal imprimature on legislation. He's more powerful in D.C. as a Democrat than he would be as a Republican. How often do you hear about what Johannes is doing or how he is voting? He's just another lock-stepping Republican. Ben likes to wield the swing vote. He won't move to the other party of his own volition even when invited -- and he has received invitations from the other side. He won't be disinvited by Democrats, because he is unique in Nebraska (a Democrat elected to national office).

Also, he has said he won't be switching as recently as last month.

What the DNC did do was hand him a whole lot of cash to run ads saying how great he is and he isn't even up for election.

24. Yeah, I'm in the same place.
The Heritage Foundation?

You have to draw the line somewhere. And the HF is WAY over that line.

Like Joe-Lieberman-at-the-Republican-National-Convention over the line.

25. That Lieberman gig at the RNC is what came to mind,
but I wanted to keep my "message" brief. I was expecting flak from some of the "peacock/purists" here, and I didn't want to get too bogged down in details. (Likewise with Zell Miller)

For the record: Until the mid-term elections ae over and done, I'll accept and support whomever Obama may deem suitable to his agenda!

26. Private talks at Camp David...
The only difference that will make is that instead of screaming "No! No! No! No! No!" until their faces turn blue, in a private setting they'll be screaming "No fucking way! No fucking way! No fucking way! No fucking way!" until their faces turn blue.

27. He is not a Democrat because he holds NO Democratic values.
As far as I am concerned, he's a plant. He should have been punished by party leaders long ago.

Let him pull a Spector...see if he's conservative enough to keep his job in the face of a tea party challenger in 2012.

I'm not demanding "purity", but Nelson is like the opposite of Ivory® Soap, and it behooves Democrats to purge this venom from their ranks.
