So don’t expect quick action. A compromise may still be possible – perhaps raising the income trigger from $250,000 to $1,000,000 – but it almost certainly won’t happen before the mid-terms. And in a lame-duck session, the GOP will almost certainly hold a stronger hand.

I also asked Gibbs to respond to Gingrich’s remarks in the National Review Online where he said “What if is so outside our comprehension, that only if you understand Kenyan, anti-colonial behavior, can you begin to piece together ? …That is the most accurate, predictive model for his behavior."

“You would normally expect better of somebody who held the position of Speaker of the House but look it is political season and most people will say anything and Newt Gingrich does that on a genuinely, on a regular basis,” Gibbs said.
