I am wearing the hijab today to protest the recent Islamaphobia and
to plead with all my fellow Americans to remember we all stand united against terrorism, and united in favor of American values such as tolerance for all faiths, justice, and compassion.

1. Those of us with no faith at all would like a little tolerance too...
It seems we always get left out of these pleas for justice, tolerance and compassion..

2. Oh, absolutely! I always say we should have freedom FROM religion as well
as freedom of religion! I guess in my mind I consider atheism to be a faith but I guess that doesn't really make any sense. I do have family members who are athiest and I always stand up for them when other family members make disparaging comments. I guess I just wish we could all get along.

4. LOL - I think that's a nudist, isn't it? :) I guess a person can be an atheist nudist, why not?
Seriously, all this violence and hate against Muslims is bad stuff. I have a neighbor who is the kindest lady and she has two children who are in grade school who are so sweet. She and her children are very afraid these days because of the violence. Her children ask her, "why do they hate us?" Those children never did anything wrong.

5. Well, we prefer the term 'naturist'
The word 'nudist' has often been followed by the word 'colony', which is a word that often follows 'leper'. We're really not to be avoided like some sort of disease.

I'm with you on that, I encounter quite a few Muslim folks in my work, and they respond positively to my Pacific Northwest friendly style. As a matter of fact, so do a lot of people in this area!

6. Google image for "religious headwear" and it becomes immediately apparent
that God only loves you if you wear a funny hat.

7. Check out these designer hijabs
http://edition.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/europe/09/09/muslim.headscarf.belgium/#fbid=ERJNMCicQvv&wom=false

Muslim headscarves might not be the most obvious garments for a high fashion makeover, but that's just what two Belgian women have given them. And now, their designs are selling from Paris to Dubai.

" never seen anything like it, so I was a bit taken aback," she said. "I thought, 'Ooh, I like this.' I can wear it. You can wear it. Everybody can wear it. It's about draping. It's about fun. It's about fashion."

Noor D'Izar took their designs to Paris Fashion Week earlier this year where they caused quite a buzz, according to Rombouts.

"There was a lot of interest from the western world -- men and women," she said. "One man who rides a motorbike bought our leather design to wear over his helmet."
