If Glenn feels the need to "reclaim civil rights" . . .
. . . then I think it only appropriate that the DC Fire Department should be allowed to spray his crowd with high powered water hoses, all the while the DC Police are beating innocent people and unleashing their attack dogs into his crowd. Then will Glenn really know what it is like to be denied his civil rights." --How true this comment is! (found elsewhere)

2. Redeeming civil rights has a different meaning to a segment of old white people
To them it means going back to the days of white mob rule, when whites made all the rules and the constitution didn't apply to everybody. They remember it as some sort of halcyon dream, a country of low unemployment, where everybody (white, male) could make it, and where there was low crime.

What they never seem to remember is that it was the New Deal who gave them that economic paradise and that all the "lawn order" SOBs they've put into office since then have worked to destroy it.

Because black folks got their rights just before the New Deal got dismantled, they associate the two and of course they blame black folks for it all, not themselves for being bigots and voting for evil sacks of shit who were their deadly enemies, not their friends.

This is where those people are coming from. They're stupid.

9. The civil rights they want are the old traditional rights to discriminate and marginalize.

4. SO - where are they?
if this bunch of pasty-white morons want to really experience loss of their civil rights (which they've never experienced in their lives), I say BRING IT ON.

8. Beck's words were meant only for effect- he knew
he was not at risk, he just likes to titillate his listeners.

I'm glad he didn't get hosed or abused by the police. The last thing we need is for him to become a 'martyr'. He's a fool, and a phony. No sense in legitimizing his message.

5. No, the RW need to be reminded that they lost their claim to
be in the Party of Lincoln when they embraced the Burchers and the Southern Strategy back when. Their current ideology requires a new platform, not a reclamation.

10. Right wingers are NOT the party of Lincoln!
They are the party of John Wilkes Booth.

(overheard on the internet, probably here at DU...)

7. He can't reclaim a movement in which he had no role.
And neither can his nutty, racist adherents.

11. Actually, Beck won't know until......
he or one of his male relatives is discovered strung up on a tree in the woods, or he's denied a bank loan because of his race, or denied a job because of his race, or denied the right to vote because of his race, or one of his female relatives is raped and the police do nothing, or his children are forced to attend inferior schools, or he has to sit in the back of the bus, or in the balcony of movie theaters, or when he disappears one night and is never seen again.

After experiencing some of things on a regular basis, Glen Beck may have an idea of what the Civil Rights Movement was all about.
