CNN: 10 things Obama must do in 10 weeks
http://www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/08/23/obama.midterms/?hpt=Sbin

(CNN) -- President Obama is facing criticism that his message has gone off track at a crucial time for his party and administration. With the midterm elections just 10 weeks away, the president's approval ratings are at their lowest. Analysts are predicting big wins for Republicans in November.

Ten weeks is an eternity in politics, and Republican and Democratic strategists say there are some key things Obama can do in the final stretch to restore the confidence of the American people and minimize expected losses for his party.

1. Simplify the message

Candidate Obama inspired voters in the 2008 election with a simple message of hope and change. Halfway through his term, the president now faces the complex reality of governing.

Despite the administration's full plate, strategists say Obama needs to return to the focus and discipline that helped him win the presidency.

Critiques invited, please.

1. There's already too much "reaching across the aisle..."
In fact, it's been a veritable "reach around."

4. As the first poster says. Too much reaching
across the aisles, I am sick and damn tired of Obama trying to appease the republicans. He seems to have forgotten that Democrats, and Progressives are the ones WHO ELECTED him. The republicans did not and will not vote for him. He must understand all they want to to sink his administration. In fact all they want is to sink any Democratic administration. They are under the mistaken notion that they are the divine rulers. While in fact not one republican in the last century and this one so far, doesn't know a damn thing about being a president. Ike was an exception, he knew that we should never revert to a military complex..We have. Nixon in all his blundering and paranoia was a good foreign policy person, and that was all. Every time a republican gets in power the economy and everything else in this country turns sour. They then have to elect a Democrat to straighten things out. The same way with governorships. Look at Virginia. The republicans absolutely ruined the state..can you say George Allen. Then they had to elect Democrats to straighten it out. Warren and Kaine. They did. Now the put in this POS and it is going to hell in a hand-basket already. I just don't understand people. How anybody can trust a republican is beyond me. WHY WOULD OBAMA TRUST ANY OF THEM. THEY WOULD STAB YOU IN THE BACK AS SOON AS LOOK AT YOU. Remember Kathryn Harris who went out on a limb and stopped the voting in Florida who helped Bush get to the supreme court. They threw her to the wolves when she ran for re-election. And how about Linda Tripp who betrayed a trusting friend to get her to "get" President Clinton. What did they do..they fired her as soon as they took office. She couldn't get another federal job and had to sell hot dogs and such at a cart. SEE and Obama thinks they would help him...

6. re the reaching out--ELECTIONS ARE NOT THE TIME!!!
it's time to draw distinctions and point fingers, fer gawd's sake. AFTER we trounce them, it's time to reach out (historically-I must say these modern-day RepuKKKes are the exception for that, however)

8. Simplify the Message???
How about first coming up with a message. President Obama could not have inspired us any more effectively than he did during the campaign. He needs to recapture the message...frame the arguments and inspire ALL of us once again. Why he allowed the RW to take over the megaphone when he is not only skilled in this area but has the bully pulpit is baffling to me. He is a good man...he needs to recapture the message.
