Fox News co-owner funded ‘Ground Zero mosque’ imam: report

By Raw Story
Saturday, August 21st, 2010 -- 7:02 pm

The second largest shareholder in News Corp. -- the parent company of Fox News -- has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to causes linked to the imam planning to build a Muslim community center and mosque near Ground Zero in Manhattan, says a report from Yahoo!News.

According to the report from Yahoo!'s John Cook, Saudi Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal, who owns seven percent of News Corp., "has directly funded (Imam Feisal Abdul) Rauf's projects to the tune of more than $300,000."

Cook reports that Prince Al-Waleed's personal charity, the Kingdom Foundation, donated $305,000 to Muslim Leaders of Tomorrow, a project sponsored by two of Rauf's initiatives, the American Society for Muslim Advancement and the Cordoba Initiative, which is building the Manhattan mosque.

That Fox News' second-largest shareholder, after Rupert Murdoch, has financial links to the "Ground Zero mosque" will be seen as ironic by critics of the news network, who have watched with chagrin as the network's talking heads attempt to link the mosque to radical Islamism.

News Corp’s number-two shareholder funded ‘terror mosque’ planner

Indeed, as none other than Rupert Murdoch's New York Post reported last May, the Kingdom Foundation, al-Waleed's personal charity, has donated a total of $305,000 to Muslim Leaders of Tomorrow, a leadership and networking project sponsored jointly by two of Rauf's organizations, the American Society for Muslim Advancement and the Cordoba Initiative. Al-Waleed owns a 7 percent, $2.3 billion stake in News Corporation. Likewise, News Corporation owns a 9 percent, $70 million stake — purchased in February — in Rotana, Al-Waleed's Saudi media conglomerate. Put another way: Rupert Murdoch and Fox News are in business, to the tune of billions of dollars, with one of the "Terror Mosque Imam's" principal patrons.

5. oh yeah!
As Geller helpfully notes on her blog, Al-Waleed donated $500,000 to the Council on American-Islamic Relations — which has been repeatedly denounced on Fox News's air by Geller and others as a terror group — in 2002. Indeed, Rauf's "numerous ties to CAIR" alone have been cited by the mosque's opponents as a justification for imputing terrorist sympathies to him, yet few people seem to be asking whether Murdoch's extensive multi-billion business collaboration with the man who funds both Rauf and CAIR merits investigation or concern.

It's all about the money. Ramp up the story and make it bigger....

I wonder if the Saudi prince financing (some, part, all of) the Cordoba House project is now going to be seen as some kind of "good will gesture" and THAT will now be the new meme on Fox News.

I don't trust any of them. Religion is used as the opiate of the masses, and it is used to manipulate and "frame" every single day in the MSM.

36. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You For This Story!!!
I've been in an ongoing debate with a right-wing friend over this whole Cordoba Initiative thing. I've managed to back him into a corner using the whole "Contitution protects freedom of religion" argument, and in order to make himself NOT sound like a bigot, his only response has been that while he has no problem with Muslims in general, or even a mosque on this site, what he objects to is this particular Imam, who he claims is a dangerous, radical, anti-American would-be terrorist leader. When I posted links to numerous articles showing that Rauf is anything BUT a dangerous terrorist leader, he claimed that Rauf has been saying all the right things HERE, but saying very DIFFERENT things when he speaks to audiences in the Middle East. And his evidence of this? The following article (in the oh-so-credible Weekly Standard):

http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/rauf-radicals

Essentially, the article says Rauf is a dangerous, anti-American radical because he associates with (and by "associates with," they mean, "has accepted funding from") known anti-American radicals like............say it with me, now................Al-Waleed Bin Talal! And everyone knows that ANYONE who associates with dangerous people like Bin Talal can't POSSIBLY have good intentions toward America.

Oh, I can't WAIT to hear his response to this one. I just sent him the article along with a note saying that since I knew he was afraid of anyone associating with Bin Talal, I would be right there to help him organize his boycott of Faux News just as soon as he was ready to do it (which I'm CERTAIN he will, intellectual consistency being the HALLMARK of the right-wing and all).

37. Also tell them that he's a Sufi and Al Qaeda hate Sufis
Fareed Zakaria did an excellent piece on this at the top of his show today. This is from his website:

Have you heard of Sufi Islam? Well, Al Qaeda sure has.

It is the mystical brand of Islam that embraces a more liberal interpretation of the Koran. Sufism embraces music and song. It is an interpretation that Al Qaeda views as its mortal enemy.

It is also the sect of Islam embraced by the Imam of the Islamic center near Ground Zero. Watch as Fareed takes a look at what lies behind Sufism...and why Al Qaeda's hatred of it should inform us about where Imam Rauf stands on the Islamic spectrum.

39. Oh, I Made That Point LONG Ago
I told him that Rauf was a Sufi, and that al Qaeda hated Sufis too. He said he knew that, and he realized that Islam was made up of several different sects with different beliefs. Yet he insisted that despite all that, Rauf still believes in Sharia Law. Sometimes talking to right-wingers is like banging your head against a wall.

Ground Zero Mosque Imam Is Globalist Stooge

CFR member receives financial backing from who’s who of global corporate elite

Steve Watson
Prisonplanet.com
Friday, Aug 20th, 2010

The Imam of the now infamous “ground zero mosque” is a member of the ultra elitist Council On Foreign Relations and receives financial backing from powerful globalist sources including the Rockefellers, the Carnegie Corporation and the Ford Foundation.

This information provides a compelling backdrop to the theory that the move to establish the mosque is a deliberate attempt to further stoke religious tensions and divert attention away from the real enemy of free humanity, the corporate globalist elite who continue to profit from global war and division.
The proposed mosque, to be known as Cordoba House is the project of the Cordoba Initiative, an organisation founded by ‘Imam’ Feisal Abdul Rauf (pictured above), who, in addition to being a member of the World Economic Forum’s Council of 100, is an active member of the Council on Foreign Relations’ Religious Advisory Committee.

The Cordoba Initiative’s website cites “Christian support for the Cordoba House” in the form of Christian publication, “Sojourners”, which is owned by evangelical Christian writer and political activist Jim Wallis, also coincidentally a sitting member of the CFR’s Religious Advisory Committee.

The CFR, as regular readers know, is populated exclusively by major players with the biggest corporations, banks and defence contractors in the world – all of whom are making vast profits and securing more power from continued global conflict. The CFR also exerts far reaching influence over the U.S. government.

Tony Cartalucci at landdestroyer blog breaks down the fact that every single leading player in both the neocon infested Bush administration and the “change” gang under Barrack Obama is a CFR luminary. Cartalucci also provides further stunning research relating to Cordoba House and its CFR Imam, which breaks down as follows.

Feisal Abdul Rauf also heads up the American Society for Muslim Advancement (ASMA) which enjoys a partnership with the Cordoba Initiative and provided $100 million to secure the site close to ground zero for the mosque to be built.

That $100 million came directly from the back pockets of ASMA’s financial backers.

According to ASMA’s website they include the Carnegie Corporation of New York, the Ford Foundation, Rockefeller Brothers, Rockefeller Philanthropy, and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund – essentially the tip of the pyramid of the international globalist elite. ...................

63. I've started calling it the "Fox News Mosque"
in discussion forums already. It makes the con-artist con-servative trolls even more shrill in their denial.

The whole "issue" is the most hilarious con-game I've seen in a long time.

64. Weird coincidence, last night I watched an episode of MAX HEADROOM, "War"
Wherein a group of terrorists blowing up buildings are bankrolled by a television news network looking for ratings.

And that from 1987...
