I can't understand what the hassle is all about. The Muslims who are building this are both sensitive to the needs of the community (which is why they're building the center in the middle of NYC, where it is needed) and sensitive to the feelings of conservatives by building it so far away from Ground Zero you've got to go allllllllll the way around the world to end up at Ground Zero, where by building a huge memorial park and museum instead of the office complex that belongs there, we are admitting that Osama won.

Now let's quit bullshitting around and get down to the real issue: This "mosque" they're building contains a gym and other facilities the community can use. You've heard of the Young Men's Christian Association and the Young Men's Hebrew Association, right? They build gyms, right? Those gyms have chapels in them, right? What, EXACTLY, is the difference between the "gym with a chapel in it" the YMCA or YMHA have built all over New York City, and the "gym with a chapel in it" the Young Men's Muslim Association is putting up?

5. If you haven't, then you have NO IDEA of NYC dynamics.
The 92nd St Y. is one of the coolest places on earth! As a young, black, classical musician it was HOME BASE back in the day. Park 51 is based on THAT tradition having CLOSE TIES with them AND the Interfaith community.

I remember how those in flyover country who NEVER HAD ANYTHING GOOD TO SAY ABOUT THOSE "N.Y. LIBRUL ELITISTS" AND WOULD NEVER BE CAUGHT DEAD THERE were SOOO concerned after 9/11 that they had to persecute anyone existing or passing through while brown in their far-flung communities no one could find with the most advanced GPS. :eyes:

LÄCHERLICH.

9. In the words of the "sainted" Rodney King...
Maxikins, let your ol' Tante vent a second here. I shall never return to the land of my birth because of Thomas Mann... That place don't EXIST NO MO!

Race: It registered only subtly until I integrated the elementary school. Didn't EVERYBODY have all the colours in their family and if not, who cared? We were ALL US.

English Only: Hä?

In MY early childhood America, our rugrat tribe got screamed at in no less than 6 languages. NOTHING was lost in translation because there was NO NEED for such silliness. We ALL had ears to hear. "YON-TOOOOSH!!!" (Josef. My sister's Polish 'boyfriend's' mom. We ran to her voice cuz we dared not do otherwise and SOMETIMES she had these meat-filled pasta thingies that she'd stuff into our dirty faces before sending us home.

Religion: I thank the "force" for the freedom of and freedom from I was afforded just by accident of birth. So many have NO CHANCE for such reflection.

Being "the OTHER":

Having been one of "them," from a high-achieving family of multi-coloured "thems," I am appalled at what I see happening. I just want to SCREAM, "WE'RE BETTER THAN THIS!" The collective, vocal, dominant culture Ami-land screams back, YOU are NOT part of WE, neither are your sand-n***** friends NOR that NON-AMERICAN IMPOSTER who Orly Taitz will finally uncover.

This shit is FAR OUT, MAN. And NOT FUN.

:cry::cry::cry:

2. It's the newest wedge issue in an election year
People should remember that wedge issues come out in election years. The Republicans will use 9/11 as a wedge issue until no one remembers what it means anymore. They will squeeze the very last possible drop out of it. They love pulling America's fear chain any time they want to.

8. If large numbers of people praying is all it takes to make somewhere evil...
then we need to call artillery in on Saddleback Church (weekly attendance at all branches 20,000-plus) right away.
