The only change that should be made to Social Sercurity...
lower the age, what sense does it make to force even 1 or 2 million more people out into such a weak job market?

1. I've been thinking the same thing
plus people over 50 are having the hardest time finding jobs.

2. Didn't someone post a couple of days ago that the unemployment rate was lowest among
50+ers? And highest in the 24-30 group?

3. Thom Hartman says it should b lowered to 55. Said it would be an instant fix
for our unemployment problem. I think he's right, BUT, I'm not so sure the US can handle it financially right now.

Another gift to the rich.

22. Yes! Scrap the cap.
America unfortunately has spent the former 'trust fund' that Social Security had built, so we must re-fund the system. Eliminating the cap on Social Security deductions would make lowering the age of eligibility a feasible option.

23. The way I understand it, they've only spent the interest
the principle is still in Bonds...the benefits are paid with the interest payments to the principle which is what we pay in.

7. Even that would be no problem...
raise the cap, limit the top benefits. Easy to do if we valued any one outside of that 2%.:grr:

9. Instead benefits slashed and the retirement age raised above where it is now and that is 70 for full
benefits. Nice, eh? :banghead: Hope that isn't the 'solution' but I won't hold my breath.

18. If we could drop the age to 60?
Then yes, I would; but not for you. I don't want to change your contribution, unless your currently over the cap, then I do want to change your contribution. I'm also on record as being willing to pay double my amount if we could get single payer through the DC Lobby Pool.O8)

14. There would be four changes I'd make to Social Security...
1) Eliminate the total amount of income considered for the social security tax.
2) Give everyone who contributes into Social Security a basic pension at retirement age irrespective of contributions.
3) Introduce a new "means test" add-on Social Security benefit to protect the poorest.
4) Lower the retirement age cap so that some benefits can be paid to some people earlier (59.5 yrs I say)

Mark.

26. yep you're right - don't consider the first X amount of person's income
as tax for social security - consider all of it. Can be called "removing the cap" I suppose.

17. To 55 or 60. I know some people who love their work, and want to work forever, but
many of us have jobs because that is what was necessary to get along, and would love to be able to leave the workforce as early as possible. I'd love to see Medicare eligibility for everyone, too - remove one more block to people enjoying their later years.

For me, work sucked - and I started at age 14....enough was enough for me at 59.

24. And eliminate the social security tax ceiling to force the deadbeat rich to pay.
The rich don't get rich on their own. They need a lot of people to acquire wealth. They also need the people to buy their products. So without people they would be just as poor as everyone else. The thought that one person deserves to earn thousands of times what others earn is ridiculous. The more a person makes the more they own the country and the people in that country for their gains.

The very least the rich could do is be forced to pay social security tax on every dollar they earn. Imagine how much extra money would go into social security. I'm tired of the rich being deadbeats. They profit off of people by overworking and underpaying them, so the least they should do is to help take care of people when they get older.

We are not farm animals. We shouldn't be treated like farm animals who are used to work their entire lives and then when they get too old to work they are euthanized. No, our elderly are not being euthanized, but to send our elderly out to pasture with no grass (food) or shelter is inhumane. The rich should not be allowed to continue to get away with their abuses of others.

I heard a study showing that 10% of babies were from men who weren't the child's father. Lots of messing around out there! Before DNA testing who would ever know. Good to meet you 'brother' :).

33. Correction in my post about the rich.
I made a typo in my post above. I meant OWE, not own. Typing on an iPod with spell check sometimes puts the wrong word down.

"The more a person makes the more they OWE the country and the people in that country for their gains."
