NBC special tomorrow - people living in America with no $$$
NBC, Sunday, 7pm Pacific time. Hour special on poverty in America. How people are living on nothing. Clips looked like dustbowl, shanty town living.

7. I read a book of letters to the WH during the Great Depression.
It is something everyone should read. Or should have read before electing any Republicans.

In it are many letters from mothers begging for a scrap of a blanket to wrap the newborn baby in, from women asking if Eleanor Rooosevelt could send her cast-off clothing because the women of America were literally dressing in rags, with no warm coat. From people begging, begging for jobs for fathers. Begging for medical care. One from a little boy who spent his Sunday school offering money on a stamp so he could write the president and ask for a job for his daddy.

In one way, we are better off now. America is awash in used clothing! I don't think any baby would be without a wrap of some kind today. And there is ADC to provide milk and healthful basics to mothers and children.

But the effects of unemployment are just beginning to be revealed. We're still on the downward skid.

As it gets worse, it is OUR JOB to hammer Republicans with responsibility for the slide. Don't let them take anything else. Make class warfare a fight for every man, woman and child.

8. +1000
you are right, we don;t have a shortage of scraps for us lowly peasants... but we sure don;t have the ability to live off the land that the depression era folks did ...my mom told me of being able to sell eggs from their chickens on the side of the road...you'd be arrested for doing that now; people used to drive into remote areas and set up camps and live off the land togehter, those shantytowns are often outlawed now and the people run off or out in jail...because the coprorations own the land AND everything else

sad state of affairs

16. True. Plenty of clothing. There was a reality TV show last year that
had people living in Los Angeles as if they had survived some kind of very recent disaster. It made no sense that they had some walking around in rags although stores and home available for looting. Just their own clothes supply would last for years.
