so everything is supposed to be alright now in the Gulf?

not counting the subtropical storm going on now.

CNN announced yesterday that BP said all the oil that could be sucked up had been sucked up. and that the rest of the oil had been dispersed. and some areas have been opened back up to fishing.

'dispersed' is the horrible part.

the media is quiet on the Gulf.

is the Gulf being lipsticked?

1. See, no big deal. All clean now.
BP will pay pennies on the dollar toward the damage they have caused. Millions of lives ruined, but BP (and rethugs)will portray themselves as the victims.

2. That's certainly the impression it seems they're trying to give, which I find very very suspicious.

3. Researchers confirm subsea Gulf oil plumes are from BP well

McClatchy Newspapers

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Through a chemical fingerprinting process, University of South Florida researchers have definitively linked clouds of underwater oil in the northern Gulf of Mexico to BP's runaway Deepwater Horizon well — the first direct scientific link between the subsurface oil clouds commonly known as "plumes" and the BP oil spill, USF officials said Friday.

5. Down the memory hole.

Nothing to see here, move on. Move forward.

No way in hell.

The chickens have hardly come home to roost from this debacle.

The 'gifts' of capitalism just keep on giving, kill it.

6. Are you reading the info from TheOilDrum ?
Last night's thread "BP's Deepwater Oil Spill- Tropical Depression Bonnie (1a) - and Open Thread"

is the best I have read on the situation.. and is up to date..

In it, "Syncro", a lawyer, defends his position regarding the blowout. He is now going on a well deserved vacation.

It is great read... and explains much about the situation..

Also interesting info on concrete.. Sorry I cannot link :(

9. Yes! T.O.D. is the most informative website in the GOM/BP Disaster...
I've come across! Bar none. Truly knowledgeable info from people who really know about Oil/Oil Drilling/Peak Oil Production.

The Message Board is a wealth of GOOD info from those who drill Stupidly Deep Holes in the Earth!

11. Cap is still holding but they need to do the "static kill" thing and then plug it permanently..
with the relief well. Maybe 2-3 more weeks before its safe to say its plugged. Of course the zillions of gallons of oil are still with us somewhere. The effects of which will probably haunt us for years and years.

12. The spin does seem to have picked up strength the last few days.
Just like some of the people bought the spin after the Exxon Valdez, I'm sure that too many people will think that all of the oil and dispersants have been magically cleaned up "years ahead of schedule".

Paying attention and digging for the truth don't seem to be at the top of Americans' priorities.

Look at how many people think that NOLA is back just like it was before Katrina. The residents have all returned and have nice new houses etc...

I hope that I'm wrong, but I'm afraid that the people in the Gulf will be paying for this crime both financially and physically for years or decades to come.

The ecological damage is something that I don't want to contemplate, but I'm sure that will be sugar coated also. It's the American way.

13. Those who stand to benefit most from minimizing the short and long term effects
of the catastrophe are counting on the vast majority of Americans whom they know have thus far only been indirectly affected emotionally by it, and they hope that over time the disaffected and jaded public will become increasingly blase and indifferent to it, as long as the amount of good news propagated through the MSM can continue to overcome and overwhelm any bad news that might escape their attempts to quash and discredit the sources of it.

BP is attempting to proactively muzzle those whom could possibly convince and prove to the public that the effects from this catastrophe may indeed be much, much worse than what has so far been revealed. The pathetic GOM "clean up" efforts have been for show and mostly futile, due to the dispersant being used preventing and hindering collection, but for the most part the cover up has been much more successful.

We have seen with our own eyes, while BP blatantly attempts to "sweep" (disperse) the vast, (Lake Superior-sized) mass of crude oil under the proverbial "rug" (of seawater). They have demonstrated beyond any doubt that they firmly believe that they are above our laws, and that they will do anything in any way that they want, because to most wealthy corporate capitalists, the average American is nothing but a gullible peon consumer that can easily be manipulated, ignored or dismissed. If millions become ill, injured, or may perish as a result of being exposed to the unfortunate or unforeseen "consequences" of their quest for profits, that would of course be regrettable but necessary.

14. The drama of oil gushing out of the well is over, so the media will go silent on this issue,
& in a few weeks, most Americans will not give a second thought to the disaster continuing in the Gulf.
