Okay so when is Obama going to give Ms. Sherrod her job back?
If Obama REALLY wanted to send a true message about this whole mess he should have had Ms. Sherrod at the White House today making a public apology to her and giving her job back to her.

No he expresses regret BUT he does nothing to really stop this issue of "Fake Racism" in it's tracks.

My wife is so livid about the whole situation she keeps yelling that Obama should have rehired her today.

18. "The White House" doesn't necessarily mean Obama
And where in a government office does she work? Government offices are all over DC, Northern Virginia, and Maryland. And all over the United States.

She does work in DC.

I would not risk Being tombstone on this board for gossip. I believe my wife's friend to be a reliable source.

43. Obama did call her to apologize
Vilsack did offer her a job. It is not Obama's place to make those kind of personnel decisions. Obama did what was right, and that is to call and apologize, which is much more than his predecessor would have done. Working in DC does not mean that your friend knows what actually was going on. Government offices are very compartmentalized in DC.

And I don't think you have to worry about being tombstoned nor do I think it should even be a consideration. We did have some relevant questions about your source, I have lots of friends who work for the federal government. But none of them would be credible sources in this situation.

35. I think we all know about that offer. My query had to do with this....
"put in her into a "civil rights" cubby hole in DC. I hope she doesn't take it." I know that you & many others "hope she won't take it". Many were also hoping that she was going to come out trashing the WH last night, and when that didn't happen, they scurried to regroup. Hence, the outlandish ravings we see today. I think "groping" best describes it.

And for the record, I never claimed to "know better" than Ms. Sherrod. And unless you're actually her, neither do you. ;)

33. I don't know....Maybe address the nation and say Look at what we are
doing to one another with all these "witch hunts" maybe if we are to make this country a better place we need to have an open and honest talk about racism and how it actually hurts people. (You remember the kind of thing he did when he was Candidate Obama... )Just maybe it would dial down the real racism down a couple notches and maybe make people take everything with a grain of salt before FAUX causes another problem like this.

But than maybe this is too much to believe that a President or any person would do.

I would think Obama calling a press conference that he ASK Ms. Sherrod to attend and say to the country I was wrong we all where wrong. We need to learn from this lesson. It might have really done some good instead of a ( IMO) half -hearted " I Sorry"

BUT MAYBE THIS TYPE OF THINKING BELONGS IN MY "DREAM WORLD"

What should have been a triumphant week for the president has been tarnished by the stupid firing of USDA employee Shirley Sherrod and all the controversy surrounding it. So, here's a partial list of things Obama has done so far this week. Click on the links (at link) to learn more.

Issued an Executive Order on the Stewardship of the Ocean, Our Coasts, and the Great Lakes.

Signed the The Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2009, creating the strongest consumer protections in our country's history.

Signed the Improper Payments Elimination and Recovery Act (pdf) as a part of his Accountable Government Initiative, saving us tens of billions of dollars in erroneous payments.

Ushered the Tribal Law and Order Act through Congress.

Finally got the Senate to extend unemployment insurance.

Nominated marshals and judges and ambassadors (all career Senior Foreign Service members, by the way).

Expanded the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Target for Federal Operations.

In conjunction with this announcement today, Nancy Sutley, Chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality, Hilda L. Solis, Secretary of Labor, Martha Johnson, Administrator of the General Services Administration, and Ronald Sims, Deputy Secretary of the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development convened a Clean Energy Economy Forum on Federal leadership in High Performance Sustainable Building.

Saw the Senate Judiciary Committee approve Elena Kagan's nomination and send it the floor.

And hosted UK Prime Minister David Cameron.

more, and I'm tired from reading, nevermind doing it, but you go with your own bad self!

No one in this thread is a big shot, including you.

Obama is, maybe, and he might address race again. The opportunity is there if he thinks he can and it would help. Very slippery slope. Whatever he does will be chastised.
