2. A better conclusion to draw is that we should be targeting the general public

selling the liberal brand and ideals to the public at large, so it's more practical for politicians to push through more liberal agenda items.

4. That's how I read it at first too...

Then, when I calmed down - I read it again. My take on the article is... Old Ronnie Ray Gun changed the trajectory of America in a way Carter, Clinton, and both Bush Wackers did not. I also think he was saying that history may well show that President Obama is changing the trajectory of America back to the left.

Time will tell...

I say, don't give up, give 'em hell - we may just be changing America for the better.

5. I don't seen anything there that suggests giving up

It's more a question of how those of us who'd like to see a more liberal and progressive agenda frame our disappointments. I don't see it as a reason to give up, but a reason to work harder to make a more progressive agenda more appealing to more voters.

It isn't and won't be easy, even though the all of the harm Republicans and so-called conservatives have caused seems like it should make progressive reforms an easy sell.
