WEST WARWICK, R.I. -- The head of the Kent County Water Authority has pleaded not guilty to eight counts of bribing a West Warwick building official.
Prosecutors accuse Robert B. Boyer, 70, of paying West Warwick Building Official Stephen D. Murray $2,800 in eight separate installments. Boyer allegedly wanted reduced fees for a condominium project, as well as permits for a building project that had design flaws.
Boyer was freed Friday on personal recognizance.
The state police began the investigation after then-West Warwick Town Council President Jeanne-Marie DiMasi made allegations of corruption in town in 2005 before resigning as council president.
Murray told state police that Boyer tried to pay him three times, and he declined all three times.
