Rand Paul - “I’m not thinking about Afghanistan; foreign policy is really a complete non-issue.”
Edited on Fri Jul-16-10 04:43 AM by underpants
In an interview with the National Review published yesterday, Kentucky Republican Senate nominee Rand Paul —......Rand Paul on upcoming election: War in Afghanistan ‘is really a complete non-issue.’

http://thinkprogress.org/2010/07/15/rand-paul-non-issue/

“It’s too simplistic to say there is never a time to come home, or that it’s unpatriotic to debate,” Paul said. But, he adds, the public doesn’t care about the war:

As we turn to foreign policy, Paul says it is on this front that he finds himself most at odds with the GOP. However, he confides that he seldom talks about his foreign-policy positions, because what the voters really care about is economic matters. On the campaign trail, he says, “I’m not thinking about Afghanistan; foreign policy is really a complete non-issue.”

1. Once upon a time, this kind of ignorance would be
criticized endlessly instead of embraced by the right wing.

Mr. Paul, try telling that to all the families who have lost loved ones to this 'non-issue'.

Whataputz.

3. He's saying it's a non-issue because he doesn't want to discuss his views
True Looneytarian ideology on foreign policy is quite different than mainstream repugnants. They believe in minimalism when it comes to the military and foreign entanglements. It's only a non-issue because he doesn't want to reveal his looneytarian views and alienate all the pro-military repugnants, which he needs as his constituency.

4. It sounds like a policy many on DU would agree with
there is no need for foreign policy - we should concentrate on our country alone. Not my philosophy but not one inconsistent with some progressives

6. Common libertarian opinion.
Many liberals fall for the Libertarian anti-war approach, but it isn't like most of them are anti-war because they give a crap about it,usually they just want to refine their small government message into a real small government message.

8. We should maybe check with members of the
Senate Foreign Relations Committee to see if they're on board with Rand's assessment.

9. What a little pusshead.
The politicians who think it's a non-issue ought to be dragged over there and left in the middle of a firezone.
