Republicans Incite Class Warfare—Within the Middle Class

The Republicans have found a new scapegoat for the economy, in addition to illegal immigrants.

The new scapegoat is public sector workers.

Unwilling to blame Bush for the budget deficit, unable to blame Wall Street for wrecking the economy, and incapable of blaming a lack of regulation or capitalism itself for the morass we're in, Republicans are pointing their fingers now at public sector workers.

The teachers, police officers, fire fighters, and other government employees are just making too much money, the Republicans say, regardless of the fact that public sector workers in state after state have been laid off or put on unpaid furloughs.

But Republicans don't want you to think about. Much less do they want you to notice that it's the top 1 percent that's made off like bandits over the last 30 years. God forbid we raise the marginal income tax rates, or the capital gains tax, or the estate tax.http://www.commondreams.org/view/2010/07/06-3

1. Funny how they don't whine about CEOs making too much money.

Apparently many people's opinions on public sector workers come from bad experiences dealing with an idiot at the DMV... :eyes:

2. There was a time when public sector work was an option
when private sector jobs were hard to find. Pretty soon the people handing out unemployment checks will be out of work.

5. You are not far off.
Here's another headwind for a sputtering job market: State and local governments plan many more layoffs to close wide budget gaps.

Up to 400,000 workers could lose jobs in the next year as states, counties and cities grapple with lower revenue and less federal funding, says Mark Zandi, chief economist for Moody's Economy.com.

The development could slow an already lackluster recovery. Friday, the Labor Department said employers cut 125,000 jobs, mostly because 225,000 temporary U.S. Census workers completed their stints. The private sector added 83,000 jobs, fewer then expected, as the jobless rate fell to 9.5% from 9.7%.

Layoffs by state and local governments moderated in June, with 10,000 jobs trimmed. That was down from 85,000 job losses the first five months of the year and about 190,000 since June 2009.

But the pain is likely to worsen. States face a cumulative $140 billion budget gap in fiscal 2011, which began July 1 for most, says the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.http://www.usatoday.com/money/economy/employment/2010-07-06-jobs06_ST_N.htm

3. Your post brings to mind what irks me most about the Right-Wing. They can't ...
...I repeat, Can't face even the most simple facts.

The drug war is bad. (No...I FEEL that it's the thing to do.
Raising the Min. Wage helps the Country. (Awwww...I don't FEEL that way about it)
Taxing the Rich would help the Economy, poor and middle class. (Gee...we feel that would not be the thing to do)

You know..it's like trying to live and work with a pack of mean, spoiled, illogical brats.

4. No, our own party is doing that for them. It's bs to blame others
for the very thing the democrats are doing to us.
