Amanpour is reporting that the Iranian story is skeptical
she is saying there has been attacks like this before without Iranians involved and that it's early and there is no evidence of Iranian involvment in the attacks that the administration is beating drums over.
More Bush garbage trying to start war with false accusations

17. gee...what's there to be skeptical about...
A SECRET report that Iran MAY have been behind the attack on Americans... it was too sophisticated to be regular insurgents..HAD to be Iran .. of course.. hmm.. it was Iraqis who let them in...oh..shh, shh... don't mention that part. Man.. they are really grasping at straws with this one. I'm half surprised they didn't happen to find an Iranian passport in with the clothing they found. And of course there won't be any evidence to show anyone..it's all top secret..national security. Dayam! If the country falls for this again, we deserve the ten kinds of hell they're going to unleash with this crap!!

5. NBC said much of this is being met with skepticism from capital hill...
they'll have to produce some hard evidence for congress to get ANY kind of support. This is one time I really don't think the public will put up with it.

The next few weeks will be very interesting.

13. We don't know whether there is evidence or not...
we don't see it and if there is, we still won't see it. In these situations, they usually get with the congress and share the intelligence in order to garner support for taking things a step further.

But we know how good bush is about doing that, don't we?

30. ABC sounded skeptical, too
They sort of have to report what the liars in the White House are saying, but they can add that the evidence is missing.

OTOH, CBS had me screaming at the set on Monday. I didn't change the channel fast enough and got LaCouric's coverage. She was followed by some dipwad who said something like, "It's certain that defeat in Iraq would be a disaster for the US, and it's certain that it would be good for Iran." I thought I was watching Faux.

Danny Thomas was really not Lebanese at all, nor born in the USA, and all that ardent Catholicism was a front for his true identity: Abu Osama!

It's too late for Reichland Security to go after Danny, of course, but they'll go after his daughter. She's married to a "communist", ya know!

10. I can't see why anyone would believe anything the WH reports
They have been wrong about everything. I can't think of one single time I have disagreed with the administration and been wrong. Why should today be any different. Besides, mighty convenient don't you think? It's amazing how when they need something it magically shows up for them.

22. The first question asked should always be Motive
Edited on Tue Jan-30-07 11:44 PM by loindelrio
Why would Iran, engaged in a tense standoff with an unpopular and incompetent leader willing to use military power for political purposes, make such an overt act of aggression.

Could they be trying to provoke retaliation? Doubtful, as I have thought for a while that Iran's game is to lay (somewhat) low, take whatever hit if it comes, and use it as a propaganda tool in the greater Islamic world. Making a attack like this is not consistent with their positioning as the 'victim'.

Color me skeptical.

On edit: Interested to see Juan Coles take on this.
