that I wasn't buying the rah rah bullshit on the TeeVee. That I wasn't a dissident or traitor because 2000 people dying didn't make me love Bush more.

I found DU through Du'er Stewert's site about Bill O'Reilly. He had a link to Du. Started reading, signed up immediately and can you believe it, 9 years later still here??

On Dec 13th, 2000, I started searching for Websites that could explain HOW the Supreme Court was allowed to stop the vote counting in Florida because if the count was continued, it would harm George Bush. I had had enough High School Civics(early 60s) to understand that something very bad had occurred.

At THAT time, I was hoping Al Gore or the Democratic Party would call us ALL to Sit In on the Capital Steps until the vote count was resumed, and was fairly certain that this call would NOT be transmitted via the MSM who had all already crowned George Bush without question.
I was ready to go and stay as long as it took.
I started standing on street corners in Minneapolis shortly after the Supreme Court decision.



Buzzflash had a hotlink to the Top Ten Conservative Idiots at democraticunderground which I found in early 2001.

At THAT time, there really was a private "underground" forum at DU, and you had to apply for admission.
I was very anxious to join and help remove the usurpers from office, or at least be in direct contact with Americans who KNEW that something had gone terribly wrong and were going to DO something about it. I just KNEW that Activist cells were being formed, and Civil Disobedience was going to commence immediately....LOL
I wasn't going to be left out.
I STILL wish that Al Gore had called us to stand with him.
I STILL wish Kerry had done the same in 2004.
They showed us HOW to do this in the Ukraine.
I would have been there.

I have been active on DU continuously on a daily basis since that time.
It has been a very rare day that I haven't logged on to DU and at least read the Latest Breaking News.

83. If you're really interested, you could find out the true figures by looking at the userid numbers

that you see in people's profiles. They are handed out sequentially, and so it's relatively easy to find out how many people joined DU in each year, by changing the numbers till to find those who joined at the beginning of each year (or when '2001' turns to '2002' for the earliest members, I think).

It's not quite the same as when all the currently posting members joined, of course - it includes those who have left, got TSed, never posted etc. But probably more accurate for the current posters than a self-selecting poll, nevertheless.

You generally don't get a huge response to polls, and some joining-time groups may be more interested in your post than others, for reasons we may only be able to guess (eg more who joined longer ago may be more interested, for nostalgia reasons). It was just if you really did want a list with numbers.
