Fiorina has scant backing from Silicon Valley
Ari Levy, Bloomberg News

Sunday, June 20, 2010

Carly Fiorina, the former head of Hewlett-Packard Co., faces a wall of opposition from her Silicon Valley peers as she campaigns to win one of California's U.S. Senate seats.

Her victory in the Republican primary earlier this month puts Fiorina up against Democrat incumbent Barbara Boxer, a senator since 1993. Boxer has the financial support of local executives, including Cisco Systems Inc.'s John Chambers, Oracle Corp.'s Larry Ellison, Netflix Inc.'s Reed Hastings, and John Doerr from Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.

Fiorina's inability to win the backing of technology leaders contrasts with eBay Inc.'s former chief, Meg Whitman, who's racking up funding from Silicon Valley in the state's gubernatorial race.

1. Hey, whatever keeps Barbara Boxer protected.
I don't frickin' care! As long as she remains protected and safely IN the Senate where we need her. I sleep just a tiny bit more securely knowing she's on that Environmental committee to cancel out that jerk-ass human ostrich james inhofe.

2. The HP families are supporting Boxer. I just LOVE that.
I had many friends that worked at HP during the Fiorina disaster.

3. She drove Hewlett Packard into the ground
She destroyed both its innovative employee-centered culture and its reputation for quality products.

Anyone who has ever dealt with HP over the years is painfully aware of the damage she has done.

I imagine she has not made many friends in Silicon Valley either.

5. You have no idea.
The hatred for Fiorina is almost a visible cloud over this area. No one, not one person in The Valley has anything even remotely positive to say about her. I honestly believe if she walked down University Ave in Palo Alto, people would spit on her. I know I'd consider it.

6. She is hated by the HPers and the tech retirees and the Stanford alumni
She is hated by the HPers and the tech retirees and the Stanford alumni, and that is the "Peninsula."
