Better explanation for NT:
If you click reply and look at the white boxes, there is a Subject area and a Message area to type your message.
If you all you have to say can be said in the Subject line, and you don't type anything in the Message part, you type your message in the Subject section end the message with either nt, NT, N/T, eom (end of message), or n/t to let the person who might read your post know that you only said that one sentence. That way they don't click on your post expecting to see more typing in the Message part if it isn't there.

Better explanation for K&R:
K&R means you "kicked" the post because you thought it was important and everyone else should get a chance to see it before it disappears off the main page, then Recommended it to try to get it on the Greatest Page where the best threads ends up.
