Stop McCain: Tell Your Senators to Repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell!"

Dear friend,

John McCain and his right-wing buddies are trying to kill the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."

A make-or-break vote is coming in the Senate – and we need your help to drown them out.

Tell your senators to stand strong – and repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell!"

Just how far is John McCain willing to take his campaign against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) Americans?

First McCain tried to derail a bill to protect LGBT people from violent hate crimes. Yup, you heard that right.

Now he's so desperate to stop them from openly serving their country, he's announced that he will "without a doubt" help block the Senate from repealing "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."

Meanwhile, the right-wing Family Research Council is claiming that repealing "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" will increase sexual assault in the military and "undermine the religious liberties" of military chaplains.

These attacks are baseless and insulting. But they're gaining traction, just as the Senate prepares to vote on repealing this discriminatory law. Your senators could determine the fate of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" – and we need your help to drown out these desperate attempts to block repeal.

Help flood the Senate with emails – tell your senators it's time to repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" once and for all!

78 percent of Americans favor ending "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" according to a recent CNN poll. They know it doesn't matter whether a soldier is lesbian, gay or straight. What matters is that a soldier gets the job done.

Repealing "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" will make our country safer and stronger. But this issue is about more than just the military. It's about basic fairness.

And when the man who could have been our president starts trying to score cheap political points using LGBT people as a whipping post, it's time for every American who believes in basic fairness – whether you're gay or straight – to take a stand. Take action now >>

Over the last year, the Human Rights Campaign and people like you have built unprecedented momentum for repealing this discriminatory law through hundreds of thousands of emails and phone calls to Congress, lobby days, grassroots organizing and more.

That momentum paved the way for last month's historic vote in the U.S. House to repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" – but now the Senate must vote. And this historic advance for equality could still be snatched away if we don't counter the radical right now.

Will you send a message to your senators before it's too late?

Urge your senators to repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" and stop forcing lesbian and gay service members to lie about who they are.

Thank you for doing your part to end this discrimination once and for all.

Sincerely,

Joe Solmonese
President

P.S. The Human Rights Campaign is America's largest civil rights organization working to achieve LGBT equality, but we can’t win this one without you. Send your message to the Senate right now – it just takes one minute!
