Anyone know: will there be a Republican Response to tonight's address?

I have not heard about one, but I imagine that the enemy party would have the right to air time if they requested it.

1. I don't think they do get a response on this one
beyond their normal vehicles. This is an address from the oval office on a matter of national significance and at least theoretically not political, so I don't think equal time applies.

2. I thought it was usually the State of the Union Address that they had "official" standing
to respond. But I don't know...

6. As I understand it,
anytime the president is given prime time air to push a political agenda, the opposition party has the right to ask for equal time.

Of course, what constitues "pushing a political agenda" can be a cloudy definition. Will Obama push for an energy bill in the speech? That would be pushing an explicit political agenda, I think.

After Obama's special health care address to Congress last year and Bill Clinton's similar speech in 1993, Republicans were given time to make a response.

9. "Check back here afterward." you're not down here right where the oil is, are you?
and you're not a fisherman, or a small business owner on the coastline, or employed by a corporation near the Gulf... and for that matter, based on your comment, you're probably not a teacher, or a union member, or gay, or... etc. etc. are you?

It's rather ridiculous when people complain about the actions of the white house on whatever issue or disaster, and a few people blanket-attack those who raise questions as being Republicans. It was old last summer, and it's old this summer. He's been in office for a while - most are unimpressed overall.

10. What Do You Think - Their Response Will Be The Complete Opposite Of Whatever He Says.......
or just plain "No". Remember they are the party of "No".

It's sad - because I equate this disaster in the Gulf to the 9/11 disaster under Bush. Remember - the Dems and the country united behind Bush. IMHO that should happen with this disaster - but we all know the Repugs won't unite behind Obama on anything.

12. Of course. As always, they write it by committee long in advance of the speech.
