Obama to address nation Tuesday night on oil spill
Edited on Sun Jun-13-10 09:06 AM by Cetacea
WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama plans to address the nation this coming week about the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

White House adviser David Axelrod says Obama will talk about the disaster after he returns from a visit to the region on Monday and Tuesday.

Axelrod tells NBC's "Meet the Press" that the president will lay out steps that the government will take to cope with the fallout from the spill.

I wish that he'd done this weeks ago. Still, I think it's a good idea...

1. what I want to hear
(but probably won't):

1. Why is BP not providing cleanup workers with respirators and adequate protection from the toxins making them sick?

2. Why are you letting BP disperse chemicals that are apparently more toxic than the oil, that increase the toxicity of the oil 10-fold, and that are banned pretty much everywhere else...including their home country?

3. Why is BP allowed to blow off the EPA, having been ordered to stop dispersing Corexit?

4. Why did you turn away assistance from the Netherlands and Norway, including millions of gallons of less toxic, more effective disperants?

5. Why are you allowing BP to order reporters away from *our* devastated beaches? What are you afraid will be photographed?

6. What were you doing from mid-April until mid-May...when stopping the catastrophe and protecting US interests was still considered (by some) to be "BP's responsibility?"

oh, and just for the record, IT'S NOT A SPILL. IT'S NOT A LEAK.

IT'S A GEYSER. AND IT'S A GODDAM MOTHERFUCKING CATASTROPHE. :grr: :grr: :grr: :grr: :grr:

2. I honestly don't know if there's anything that can be said
that will help the situation or make me feel better. I have as much faith in our POTUS as anyone, but I am thinking this is almost beyond control...

Unless he has the skimmers and the manpower to cleanup deployed in full force monday, there's nothing he can say that will make it better.

CLEAN.IT.UP....then we can worry about the prosecutions and the money...but the damage has to be handled NOW
