I've not seen this yet, but the weather dude in Raleigh on the local news showed the oil flow forecast, indicating a portion is possibly about to reach the loop current...then on to the gulf stream with potential impact on the NC Outer Banks. My wife and I always spend two weeks at Ocracoke island in October (just south of Hatteras Island) - we wonder if we will be helping to clean tar balls off of the beach. What a senseless tragedy.

2. Here's a map of that scenario from UCAR. I'm just heart sick.

A computer model released 3 June 2010 by the University Corporation of Atmospheric Research projects the extent of oil spread from the Gulf spill in the coming months. The Gulf's loop current would carry it up the Gulf Stream current polluting waters and beaches with hydrocarbon sheens and tar along the Atlantic coasts of Florida, the Carolinas, then across the Northern Atlantic towards England. I just watched a PBS special about the Outer Banks and its unique, fragile, diverse aquatic life and coastal areas. I am filled with grief for what has already occurred in the Gulf and the spreading black poison.

3. Gregg Fischel is getting his geek on?
:-)

I'm very heartsick that the oil may reach our beloved Outer Banks.

4. Wasn't Fish, actually - Mike Maze covered it.
though I am sure it is now firmly on their radar, so will be watching it closely.

Greg Fischel, my favorite weather dude!
