the Democratic apparatus would have probably ignored the race. Halter would have been on his own in trying to win the election. At least there will be a better effort to try and win the election. That's the only positive I can think of.

2. Is that how they're handling Sestak? I know they always back the incumbent,
but when the incumbent loses, wouldn't it behoove them to back whomever the Dem candidate is?

6. Sestak is part of the government in Washington.
The effort to help Lincoln will be greater because she has had an impact in Washington. They might have still tried to help Halter but not as much.

3. My guess (and it is only a guess)
is that having Bill Clinton campaign for her helped Lincoln win. I hope he can help her win the general, but I doubt it.

4. You're probably right, and the other thing is that Arkansans know her well.
I really wanted Halter to win, and I'd be better able to handle the loss if they hadn't pulled the BS in that one county & closed lmost all the precincts, but I still realy want to hold onto that Dem seat, so I'll swallow my pride & cheer for traitor Lincoln.

5. Oh, absolutely not ... they'd be right by his side
They are about the party. And whoever wins gets all the help the party needs to keep its majority and safeguard its policy priorities. They are not self-destructive. Obama's success depends on getting Democrats elected.

7. Who would win the election?
The person that votes Republican? How is that any different?

It is pretty simple to see what is going on.

8. I don't think so. Halter is not a democratic maverick.
He is -- as far as Arkansas is concerned a fairly known
quantity.

Now Lincoln is certainly obama's girl and
going along with modern dem establishment.

9. Lincoln is going to lose...
Afterall, if it's a choice between a quasi-republican and a real one, who are people going to choose?

10. I agree, she will probably lose. But they will make more of an effort
to help her than had Halter won.

12. The quasi-Republican...
You do realize she's won being the Repub-lite candidate before. Why do you assume given the choice people wouldn't vote for the conservadem again? Your acting as if she's been a liberal all along and only suddenly become a quasi-Republican.

I don't understand the thinking some people have here. For the most part we have 2 choices in conservative districts and states. We can either win with a candidate that will at least vote for our sides leaders and sometimes support us, or we can elect a right wing Republican who will vote for the other side for leadership and virtually everything else. Generally speaking, we are not going to win in these areas with progressive candidates. We can feel good about losing, or we can actually chalk up some wins in very difficult places.

13. We'll lose this seat in November anyway...
Edited on Tue Jun-08-10 11:01 PM by regnaD kciN
Of course, the national media will blame it on Obama, but at least they won't be able to further spin it as "the Democrats foolishly rejected their moderate incumbent to go with a far-left candidate; this loss proves that the Democratic Party needs to move to the right to appeal to 'the all-important center'." :eyes:
