Columbus library named tops in country
Columbus (OH) library named tops in country

The Columbus Metropolitan Library has been named Library of the Year by Library Journal.

The award was announced this morning to the library's management staff, which had no idea why they were called to the Main Library.

The library has been a finalist three times in the last decade, but has never won.

The award is given to one library each year which demonstrates community service, creativity and innovation in programs that can be emulated by others.

Given the budget cuts from state government and a November income tax levy campaign, the timing could not have been better, said Pat Losinski, library director.

In addition to bragging rights, the library will also receive a $10,000 award to be presented at a June 27 ceremony in Washington, D.C.
