Bishop John Francis, a Pentecostal preacher and head of the Ruach Christian Ministry in Brixton, south-west London, has been slammed for allegedly linking homosexuality with paedophilia, rape and bestiality.
Bishop Francis heads what is the second largest church in the UK with a majority black congregation and is said to have condemned gay people in his sermon given last Sunday 23 May. He is alleged to have claimed there was a "demonic power" at work in the British government, leading them into believing that LGBT people were to be accepted.
Duncan Bartlett, a BBC journalist who was in the congregation last Sunday in an off-duty capacity, told PinkPaper.com: "The preacher. . . said that
were responsible for rape and child abse. He also claimed that God had given up on them because of their 'reprobate minds' and that they were beyond the intervention of the Holy Spirit." Mr Bartlett added: "The whole sermon had an aggressive, confrontational tone."
Ruach, which means "Breath of God" in Hebrew, is a registered charity. According to the Charities Commission, it had an income of £2.7 million for 2009. They declined to comment on the story.
