McCaskill: Financial Reform Has Fallen 'Off A Cliff'

Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) says that financial reform proceedings have fallen "off a cliff."

"So we were going along very well, we were smooth sailing, we were having an open amendment process, Democrats were voting for some Republican amendments, and a few Republicans were voting for Democratic amendments," McCaskill told TPMDC. "I hope I'm wrong, but if all of a sudden the other side is saying we're going to change the game now and now that we've gotten all these Republican amendments voted on, we're not going to let any
more of the Democratic substantive amendments come up."

Previously, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid had predicted that several Republicans would break with their party tomorrow morning, and thwart a potential filibuster.

"A number of senators, Republican senators, have told me they will vote for cloture," Reid said.

4. It will pass
With an amendment that makes it mandatory for all of us to deposit our savings with one of the three major banks.

2. "we were having an open amendment process"
And what, you and Harry just expected Republicans to act in good faith?

Reid needs to go- and it doesn't matter whether a Republican takes his seat- it'll be a net positive for the Democrats.

3. Actually, the analysis on Maddow last night said the bill is getting stronger
Because the Democrats are not making the same mistake they made with health care.

They're not trying appease Republicans in a futile effort to get them to vote yes on the final bill - which we all know they won't do.

Reid finally has a backbone?
