Just found out my big bro is in the hospital, possible heart attack
Been sitting here on the porch waiting on my dad and brother to get home from work, they are over an hour late. It happens at times when they have to work over (they drive together and work at the same manufacturing plant). Just found out from my SIL that they are at the hospital and that my Brother may have had a heart attack.

All I know for sure at this point is that they are keeping him overnight and that dad will be home once my brother gets into his room.

He is at the same hospital mom was her last night. I remember that night as it was my brother who picked me up to go see her. I hate that place. He does too.

It could, I hope, be something minor, just not getting enough info right now. He is 49 and at most has had some blood pressure problems.

Sharp pains in his left arm, feeling weak and tired last few days, and he ignored it until today (he lives here, but in an apartment out back, so we don't see each other daily except when he is getting home from work or comes in to the house for something).

Just going to sit here and wait on dad to get home to update me. Toss out some good vibes for him please, he is a good guy and was there for me a lot when mom passed on.

4. I'm sending you good vibes. . .I hope it's minor and just a "warning sign!"
You know, sometime a mild heart attack can save someone by giving them a rude "reality check," and motivating them to take care of themselves to prevent a recurence. . .I hope this is the case and that your brother will be home soon!

5. Oh no!
Here's hoping that his relatively young age will be a good factor in this situation. If he has heart problems, they will have detected that early. :hi:

6. Good hopes and vibes for your family, hopefully it was a panic attack.
And not a myocardial infarction.

11. an opportunity to remind everyone
If you have any signs of a possible heart attack, take an aspirin immediately. It can save your life. If you are of a certain age you probably should be taking a baby aspirin every day -- check with your doctor, of course.

Classic signs of a heart attack include pressure in the chest, pain in the left (especially) arm or shoulder or jaw, shortness of breath, fatigue, a crushing sense of doom. Signs for women are more vague but include fatigue and shortness of breath.

Don't put it off. Don't just think it's heartburn. Take an aspirin, and do something about it.

My best wishes to your brother, Straight Story. We're all hoping for the best of news.

12. SS - he is in the best of all possible places if he IS having a heart attack...
Edited on Tue May-18-10 04:59 PM by old mark
they have seen it before and can do what he needs. I had 2 heart attacks one day, the second one continuing while I was admitted to the hospital. I am still here almost 7 years later. Getting TO the hospital is the hard part - many people who die from heart attacks don't get that far.

He is in my thoughts, and so are you, friend.

Hang in there. Please let us know when you find out what is going on.

Added: Just read the post about the aspirin. that is one of the reasons I am still alive today...I carried aspirin for headachs, and took some when I had my forst heart attack at work - I thought I had bronchitis. That, and the fact that I am strong and get exdercise - and that my wife persuaded me to go to the ER - saved my life.

17. I know that, just have a bad memory from it all in that regards
Mom went in for a simple infection. I got home from Chicago and told her not to worry. Not like her bypass surgery.

That night when I called to tell her goodnight dad answered the phone, and she was in great pain. The infection had burst.

Two months later she died.

It was a simple thing, and yet she died. I guess I just have personal issues with that hospital and others in general (my X almost died once because the Dr. did not catch her problems, I did though and it saved her life - she later died due to similar complications from the birth of her daughter).

Mom used to say "Folks go in there and they don't come out" :)

28. My FIL went to a Jefferson in Philly to have vein surgery on his legs - got
staph infection that settled in his spine, crippled him - I know how you feel about hospitals.

Hope he is doing well.

After something bad happened in one of OR suites, it took me years to not get stressed when I would go in there and to this day, I avoid that room as much as I can.
