U.S. war in iraq is going to end one of three ways:
Edited on Sun May-06-07 04:40 PM by ProSense
1) Vietnam-like pandemonium that makes withdrawal inevitable. 2) Congressional courage to set a deadline and cut funding 3) hope the next president adheres to a deadline as opposed to an open-ended withdrawal.

In February, Diane Feinstein proposed de-authorizing the war.

Edited title to counter the snarky comments. Iraq is in a civil war, that will obviously continue.

9. Yes, that's what I meant!
I don't suppose the U.S. Congress is in a position to cut funding for Iraq's civil war. :)

3. 1) was because congress cut off funds.
That war did not end until congress had the courage to cut the funding. That is the only way this war will end too.

8. For US, it will end when Bush and the Repubs are
out of control. Unfortunately for the Iraqis, that will not end it for them.

15. I have some other possible outcomes -

1) We run out of money (most likely scenario). We are currently using our credit card VISA CHINA and VISA JAPAN to pay for this war. It's all been on credit. We haven't even made the Minimum Payment yet, and it's 1/2 trillion Big Ones.

2) We run out of people (also likely). We've only got about 1.1 million active duty military around the world. They are working at different bases. They really can't move more than just a few because it will cause instability (like S. Korea).

3) China, India, Russia, Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, IRAN TELL US to get the hell out of Iraq. We are creating instability right now. The Middle East is becoming volatile because of this.

Notice, I never ONCE MENTIONED the American public, or even the government. We/they are completely irrelevant right now. It will be other forces that get us out. I think option 1) is the one.

16. The major US Occupation will start to wind down after
Sept. The Rethugs will demand it. They do not want this to be the focul point of the '08 Pres/VP and Congressional Elections.

The US Occupation will continue on a lower scale.

The majority of Dems do not call for all US Troops to be pulled out of Iraq. The Bill that Busholini vetoed stated that an undetermined number of US Troops would stay indefinetly to train Iraqi Troops, to defend the Green Zone and the 14 US Bases,to fight al Q and the Sunni and Shi'ite Insurgency. The US will have at least 60K Troops and a large number of Mercs in Iraq well beyond '09.
