There wont be nearly as many tornadoes.

9. Yes, it is. Today we just have flash flood warnings here in Omaha.
Last night we had tornado warnings. I wonder why makes them hit the same areas more than once. Wasn't it Oklahoma that kept getting hit last year?

Had to get up at 12:45 a.m. to help my daughter mop up the water that was in her basement (wood floors).

We have storms here in tornado alley, bad storms, predicted for the next three or four days.

The west coast has its earthquakes, the midwest it's tornadoes, the gulf coast hurricanes, and the east northwest east coast some of the worst snow storms on the planet.

We're all victims of the weather. Some worse than others it seems.

13. It seems to me Tornado Alley has been drifting slowly North the past few years.
We used to get more around here this time of year but they've mostly all been up in Kansas & Nebraska lately.
I need to research if the avg. temperatures are rising up that way...

14. Wasn't it last year (or maybe the year before) that Oklahoma just kept
getting pounded night after night? Maybe it was longer ago than that. But it doesn't seem like it.

7. Western Oklahoma is under the gun again. I am in Central Okla,
but we are under a tornado watch, and storms are probable here later. I'm dreading having to duck into the little storm shelter (supposedly holds about six people-- probably more like four comfortably) which sits in the floor of the garage. Beats hiding in a closet, and certainly beats getting clobbered by hail as you make a run for the cellar outside. Good luck.

8. I'm sorry & prayers for everyone
That's why I live in Pittsburgh. Yeah, we have our share of shitty weather, rain, snow, sleet, but rarely as severe as other parts of the country. Then you have days like today that you wish would go on forever - mid 60's sun w/o a cloud in the sky. I'm on the 'puter 'cause I'm taking a break from opening the pool.

Stay safe greenbriar and all other DUer's affected. We need you guys in Kansas!

Bigass storms training right up our way, it was storming last night, it's storming now and it'll be storming tonight and tommorow. The good thing is it's keeping the heat down, if the sun were to pop out for a couple of hours and heat the atmosphere up we'de be in a world of hurt.

We are hearing here in Florida that this year may be a big one. Last year we had 0 (zero) hurricanes, but we did have a horrific tornado outbreak earlier this year. They can be just as destructive, perhaps in smaller areas. Take care and stay safe!:grouphug:

26. We built a tower
on our house so we could get up above the trees and watch them. We love them but then this happens and you have to wonder. A few more inches and MY road will be flooded. It won't matter that all the roads away from the farm to home are flooded if I can't even get out of my own drive. It looks like that is just about to happen, a few more inches and I will be stuck. Lots of food and comfort here but no basement. That is what bothers me, no basement at the farm yet.

You take care. Deep, calming breaths taken in the safety of your basement. We will be here (at least as long as the satellite holds) if you need to talk.

The rain stopped for a few hours this afternoon, but it started raining again a couple of hours ago and now it's raining fairly hard. I'm going to have to stock my lawn with trout at this rate.

My pond gets stocked with this kind of weather. The guy across the road about 1/2 mile up stocks his ponds and they eventually run into mine but this time I am sure I am losing quite a few myself! Still, mine is a primo bass pond and I keep it very clean so.....let me know! ;)

That is not good for your lawn, you have quite a bit of depth there don't you?

I have seen people whose houses have been destroyed by floods several times. If you live in tornado alley you worry every time there is severe weather.

38. I salute you for that. Where I live there is nothing really severe.
There are blizzards in the winter and then you just stay inside. I haven't even lost power for many years. Insurance does not replace life or the things which bind lives and generations together--the memories, the familiarities. I would not choose to willingly live anywhere with that risk of destruction.

39. When I grew up in Southeast Kansas, my mom was funny about tornadoes.
Back in the early 1960s, my parents bought a pool table to put in the basement -- not to play pool on, but to huddle under during tornado warnings. For us kids, it was a toss-up between getting killed by a tornado or being killed by a Brown Recluse spider.

Some of you older DUers might remember "baby doll" pajamas. My mom wore them. When there was a tornado watch for the evening when we were ready for bed, she'd put on her baby doll pajamas with a Playtex full-length girdle. She said she figured if she were blown out of the house during the tornado and her clothes were blown off, she wouldn't be completely naked when they found her body.

God, I miss her.

That is really a cute story. I like your choice between the brown recluse and the tornado. Yes, I had some baby doll pj's myself and was raised with a girdle on (I would rather be found naked than ever put one of those things on again).

48. You know what's so weird (and sad) about Kansas?
When your family gets in a car to go on vacation, no matter where you drive, you're still in Kansas. It has to be the biggest joke the Universe plays on people from the East Coast who think they'll drive to Colorado for a spell. They get to Kansas and they drive and drive and drive and they're still in Kansas. It's mean, really.

But back to tornadoes. Here's a little known fact. The low pressure of a tornado can actually burst your eardrums. Especially if you're a six-year old boy.
