Letter carriers to collect food


Central Ohio letter carriers will collect nonperishable food items along their routes Saturday as part of a nationwide food drive.

This is the 18th year for the National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, according to the association. More than 73 million pounds of food were collected across the country in last year's drive.

Items collected in central Ohio go to area food banks and pantries.

People wishing to donate should leave items near their mailboxes on Saturday, said Rocco Evangelista, president of the association's Buckeye Branch 78, which represents central Ohio carriers.
