I just voted!
Edited on Thu May-06-10 02:26 PM by Zix
I feel all civic and stuff. Its the first election I've voted in which is pretty damning given I'm nearly 40...

I voted Lib Dem! To a certain extent they're more left than Labour.

I think the most significant thing that they might do is raising tax relief to £10,000. Also they're making noises about no longer backing Trident, also proportional representation.

So take that, Mum. I'm not a fascist after all.

Also, Nick Clegg's an atheist! And has said so!

1. Congratulations!
Though you are right, you have left it a little late in life ...

I've had 3 calls from the Lib Dems today asking if I've voted. I did, for them, but I wish they'd have a list of who has, so they don't phone again.

You mum thinks you're a fascist? Wow, she must be an old school left winger to call you that, when you've given your very first vote to the Lib Dems.

4. I'm a bit authoritarian on some things.

But it's mostly to do with being authoritarian at people who have abused their authority... The subtlety of this point escapes her, although to be fair I'm not usually very subtle in expressing that side of myself. Also its mostly an emotional reaction...

5. Move to the Scotland! We're nice. Um, mostly.

Some of us are a bit secondhand car salesman-ish...

Sorry Alex... not quite convinced.

Oh yeah, and this guy:

7. If a Labour-Lib Dem coalition results from today's election,
and Clegg demands Brown's resignation, the result will likely be Ed Balls as the new PM.

Ed. Balls.

8. Is it his name that's bothersome?

Or just that he's a bit of a prat?

I actually kind of like the Tory guy who wants to be home secretary - all about prison reform and meeting prisoners needs and stuff...

12. Not bothersome. Hilarious.
Just like: Dr. Butt*, Andy Dick, Ida Teets**.

* One of my Mom's doctors
** Neighbor lady where I grew up

I can't help it. I still laugh at that kind of silly shit.

9. He may not even be an MP by then
Balls is 6th to 8th in the betting for 'next PM':
http://bettingzone.oddschecker.com/specials/politics-and-election/next-uk-general-election/next-prime-minister

David Miliband and Alan Johnson both beat him for both bookies quoted. On puts him level with Harriet Harman; the other thinks Ed Miliband, Jack Straw and Alistair Darling are more likely.

13. Good job!
Keep it up. I'm sorry that Democratic Underground is so America centric. Does the UK have something similar to this?
