Gah! Tim LaHaye's 'new' 'improved' more apocalyptic apocalypse book series.

LaHaye's Apocalyptic Dreams Hits Pay-dirt with new series of books
Given the Tax Day Tea Parties, the 15th anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing, and the 40th anniversary of the burning of the student union building on the campus of the University of Kansas, the National Football League's draft, and news about the Hutaree Christian militia, you may have missed one of the major literary events of the week; the return of Tim LaHaye with a new series of apocalyptic novels.

Yes, to paraphrase the great Lou Christy, for the Detroit, Michigan born Tim LaHaye who will turn 84 on April 27, the Apocalypse is striking again and again and again and again.

Welcome to 'Edge of Apocalypse'
If you thought that the wildly popular Left Behind series of apocalyptic novels told the entire End Times/Rapture story, think again. Welcome to LaHaye's `Edge of Apocalypse,' the first novel of his new and improved, and even more apocalyptic, series of books.

Some people think these are nonfiction. I'd rather read VC Andrews. She may be dead, but her books are better written and have more social value.

1. I got one of the "Left Behind" movies at the library by accident a few weeks ago
I could not help but chuckle at the premise. The one thing that most amused me was the fact that all the Jesus warriors left after the rapture obvioulsy did not make the initial cut. In short, all the folks left after the rapture that wanted to fight Satan and evil were judged by God to be evil and not worth taking.

2. I agree with you. Just wondering, why is it the good people die young and rop
people like this author live forever it seems like? I'll bet this guy will live to be 110, cranking out harmful fiction every year of his life. :(

4. Great - the Satanic Thomas Kinkade of fiction strikes again . . .
I'd rather read Chick Tracts - at least they're funny.

9. I've read the whole left behind series except the last book
It's unfortunate. It's fairly easy reading, and the guy would probably be a solid author for teens or those with a bit lower reading level, but he obviously draws on such a narrow view of life. He only does one or two types of character well, and the rest are horribly stereotyped or dumbed down by his own bigoted views. Anyone that's not a white Christian is a horrible stereotype with some of the most insulting dialog I've ever read. Even the christian women don't get a free pass from his bigotry. I think I remember remember the main female character, at one point after she got married, saying something along the lines of "I don't agree with you, but since I'm your wife I'll obey". I think I laughed out loud... If any of the women I knew said something like that, I'd automatically assume something was up, lol.

I actually find I enjoy rapture/end times based science fiction (I really liked the first book of The Christ Clone trilogy, and Dean Koontz had a pretty good one too). It's a lot more fun if the author doesn't already believe they know the absolute truth and and lets their creativity lose on the "what if" aspect of the story more. Tim Lahaye is just too predictable and rigid in how his characters feel and act (not to mention just flat out offensive at times).

11. Yeah, I read the Dean Koontz book.
But I simply can't and won't read the Lahaye books. And yes, as a work of science fiction these kind of books can be entertaining.
