Many of the womwn who were on SNL are supposed to be returning for this in honor of her.

YAY Betty White! We should start a campaign for her to receive a "Presidential Medal of Freedom."

1. I remember the SNL episode where they welcomed back ALL the 5-time hosts: all men.
SNL has gone through phases where women just weren't that important to them.

Good for Betty.

2. The problem is more with Hollywood in general
SNLs' guest hosts are usually people who are at the top of the spotlight at that moment, actors and actresses with new movies, shows, or some other headline-grabbing. To host the show 5+ times means that thast person has been at the top of the game for a long and consistent time. The thing is, as male actors age they still land leading roles as action heroes, romatic leads, etc... Actresses? They start to get bypassed for the newest 20-something starlet that comes along. So as they get the less-glamorous, star-studded roles, that's less "on top" time to get picked up by the likes of SNL.

It sucks, as I'd watch a Jodie Foster movie any day over, say, Meghan Fox any day of the week.

3. True, but television generally follows a different pattern, which is why
Gena Davis, Glen Close, etc. switched to the small screen.

But, even when SNL didn't have enough female cast members, they didn't ramp up the number of female guest hosts.
