COUNCIL BLUFFS -- There were two issues that generated loud applause from those who attended Rep. Steve King’s town meeting in Council Bluffs on Monday.

One involved his stand and recent vote against the health care reform bill “Obamacare” as the 5th Congressional District Republican lawmaker described it to the estimated 75 people who attended the meeting at Iowa Western Community College.

“I have introduced legislation to repeal it,” King said.

To advance, his legislation would need signatures from at least 217 of his fellow House members, and that could be tough, King acknowledged, adding, “but, we can try.”

Later, during an interview, King said he supports “stand alone” legislation on health care improvement where it’s needed, such as allowing insurance companies the ability to sell policies across state lines for better rates and stopping the abuse of medical lawsuits.

The other issue that brought a strong response from the audience was a young man’s question, “Would you consider running for president?”
