I know why She-Who Must-Be-Obeyed wants bendable straws:
A non-bendable straw makes the individual have to bend his or her head down towards the bottle or glass. The sight of a rod projecting upward toward her mouth would be so distracting for the Teabagger-crowd to watch that they just might, well, have an accident. After all, all they do is fantasize about her.

1. Pretty Close in my opinion
I believe it is about the ability to maintain eye contact with the crowd and not having to look down at the straw. The other imagery may be part of the equation as well.

3. I find having a straw at all to be strange. Why not just a glass of water?

5. maybe cuz she'd leave tire marks on the glass
Straws provide an appearance of being so much more dainty.

12. NO, it's because the regular straws are to high, she would have to stand on her toes to reach them!

14. Naw...she needs a bendable straw to move with her bobble head
Prior attempts to use a regular straw resulted in stabs through the roof of her mouth, raising the risk of penetrating a vital organ...ya know, like the brain. Although complex scientific modeling revealed the risk of self-inflicted straw stabs to the brain to be minimal, intelligent bobble head theory assessed the risk to be much higher.

Mrs. Palin was unavailable to comment on the whole sippy brainie thing, although supporters insist such multi-tasking is indeed within her range of ability. One neighbor was quoted as saying "in fact, I've seen Sarah doing the sippy thing on her front porch at the same time she was doing the lookie thing at Russia, and I'd bet she was doing some kind of brainie thing at that very moment!"
