Specter denies endorsement deal for Supreme Court confirmations; Santorum stands by his claim that 2004 endorsement of Specter came with condition

Sen. Arlen Specter and former Sen. Rick Santorum -- political allies during their tenures in Congress -- were in dual damage control mode Sunday after Santorum told conference goers that in 2004, he and former President George Bush endorsed Specter in the Pennsylvania Republican primary against Pat Toomey after Specter pledged support for Bush's Supreme Court nominees.

Specter flaty denied any deal to secure campaign help from Bush and Santorum in exchange for support of judges who opposed Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court case that legalized a woman's right to choose.

“I never made any promise to Senator Santorum about this. I would never make a promise on a vote like this under any circumstances. I’m sorry his support for me has caused him trouble in his efforts for the Republican nomination for president. He’s had six years to make this charge and he hadn’t said anything about it,'' Specter said.

However, Santorum's spokeswoman said the conservative presidential hopeful stands by his statements. ...

2. Yeah, but Santorum is a complete scumbag (as well). I don't know who to root for.
If they destroy each other, it's an American victory.
