Special Weather Statement for Oswego, NY
Issued by The National Weather Service
Buffalo, NY
3:11 pm EDT, Fri., Apr. 9, 2010

... AN EARLY GROWING SEASON TO FACE A FROSTY CHALLENGE...

THE PAST SEVERAL WEEKS HAVE BEEN UNUSUALLY WARM ACROSS WESTERN AND NORTH CENTRAL NEW YORK. ..AS TEMPERATURES IN MOST AREAS HAVE AVERAGED 15 TO 20 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. THIS INCLUDES SEVERAL DAYS WHEN TEMPERATURES CLIMBED ABOVE 80 DEGREES.

AS A RESULT OF THE WARM WEATHER THE GROWING SEASON IS SOME 2 TO 3 WEEKS AHEAD OF SCHEDULE... INCLUDING STONE FRUITS... GRAPES AND ORNAMENTAL FRUIT TREES.

THIS WILL PROMPT THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BUFFALO TO START ISSUING FROST AND FREEZE WARNINGS AND ADVISORIES EARLIER THAN NORMAL. DURING MOST YEARS... THESE PRODUCTS ARE NOT TYPICALLY ISSUED UNTIL AT LEAST THE START OF MAY.

THIS YEAR THE FROST AND FREEZE PROGRAM FOR WESTERN AND NORTH CENTRAL NEW YORK WILL BEGIN ON APRIL 15 FOR FOR MOST AREAS... INCLUDING NIAGARA, ORLEANS, GENESEE, ERIE, CHAUTAUQUA, MONROE, LIVINGSTON, ONTARIO, WAYNE, CAYUGA AND OSWEGO COUNTIES. THE NORMALLY COLDER COUNTIES WHERE AVERAGE FROST DATES ARE LATER WILL HAVE THEIR FROST AND FREEZE PROGRAM BEGIN ON MAY 1. THIS WILL INCLUDE THE INTERIOR SOUTHERN TIER COUNTIES OF WYOMING, CATTARAUGUS AND ALLEGANY... AND EAST OF LAKE ONTARIO IT WILL INCLUDE JEFFERSON AND LEWIS.

Move along there, no global climate change to be seen here, nope, not at all....
