Outsourcing education in Fort Bend: Wanted: international teachers
Edited on Thu Apr-08-10 05:36 AM by Are_grits_groceries
Fort Bend ISD laid off 93 more teachers this week because of budget shortfalls, most of them special education teachers, but is spending money seeking new teachers?

The Fort Bend Independent School District is hiring.

As more and more teachers are getting layoff notification letters from the district’s human resources department, the district is still scouting for dozens of teachers from other countries to teach elementary pupils.

Wanted: international teachers

The district is recruiting international teachers to start teaching here for three years starting June 15. The annual compensation is $47,300.

The district hired Foster Quan, LLP, a Houston immigration law firm, to help applicants to acquire H-1B nonimmigrant visa, WHICH WOULD ALLOW THEM TO WORK IN AMERICA LEGALLY WITHOUT GETTING THE GREEN CARD, OR TO ACQUIRE PERMANENT ALIEN LABOR CERTIFICATION.

Money to do what they want to do. Coming Attractions for other areas too.

(And these are the people who scream about illegal immigrants. They aid and abet those they consider "acceptable" to enter the country.)

1. The starting pay they're offering is better than average.
This is just a slap in the face to the teachers in their community.

2. I wonder if this includes benefits or not?
I wonder if the Total Compensation package includes comparable benefits. The school district is doing this to cut labor costs.

BTW, good luck getting this past Hilda Solis and her DOL. They have been clamping down on H1Bs. I hope this gets reported to the DOL. It is a blatant violation to fire American workers and hire H1bs. My husband's company got rid of most of their H1bs. Those glory days of Bush are OVER.

More Foreign Teachers Employed In South Carolina

Program Allows Foreign Teachers To Get Experience

POSTED: 9:28 am EDT October 11, 2004

COLUMBIA -- A program designed to let foreign teachers get experience in U.S. classrooms has turned into a way for South Carolina to help fill its need for qualified teachers in poor rural districts.

In Jasper County, for example, 30 of the school district's 200 teachers are from outside the United States. At one school, Ridgeland Middle, foreign teachers account for one-third of the faculty.

Jasper superintendent William Singleton said the district pays about $3,000 less than the state's average teacher salary for foreign teachers.

Overall, more than 400 teachers in South Carolina schools this year are foreign…

5. At this point,
I hope I can keep working until retirement before my job is given to someone less qualified, less experienced, and maybe even an "international" worker who doesn't have a green card. :(
