Florence Police Seize $500,000 Worth Of Pot
FLORENCE --

Florence police said they've broken up a major marijuana growing operation.

Officers served a search warrant at 113 Dilcrest Drive on Monday. Inside, investigators said, they found an elaborate growing operation and 244 marijuana plants.

Investigators said they also found 5 pounds of prepared marijuana.

Police estimated the value of the drugs at about $500,000.

Kevin J. Biard, 37, is charged with cultivating in marijuana (five plants or more) and trafficking in a controlled substance within 1,000 yards of a school.

What the hell kind of pot is this? At a $100K/lb it should get you high for the next 10 years just looking at it.

3. 5 lbs and 244 plants is a "major growing operation"? Was the arrest made in Mayberry County?
'Cause gollee! That's not considered a "major marijuana growing operation" up to Mount Pilot (or any other major city, for that matter.)

7. Marijuana is Kentucky's #1 cash crop, IIRC.
(I assume you are not nitpicking my Andy Griffith reference by pointing out that the fictional county of Mayberry was supposed to be located in North Carolina. Because if you were, you'd be missing the point!)

11. the Mayberry reference was PERFECT. very suiting to Florence, KY.
Edited on Tue Apr-06-10 11:50 AM by Soylent Brice
or any other city in KY for that matter.

and yes, it is their number 1 (illegal) cash crop, followed by tobacco(legal).

hobbit posted upthread about what kind of weed is this. i was going to explain that Cheech and Chong (from what i've been told) did an interview in 1978 for High Times where they were asked to list there favorite place to get weed. top 2 were Amsterdam and a little unknown place called Somerset, KY. (i have been scouring for a link, to no avail.)

yeah, i took a little "vacation" down there for a few days back in 2000. i'll put it this way, you can lose time down there very easily.

shit grows all over the place. you can wander out into open fields in the woods and watch the deer eat it. hilarious.

6. How much would it be worth if Pot were legal?
"Police estimated the value of the drugs at about $500,000."

How much time, energy, tax money and resources did the Florence police dept use on this investigation?

Logic dictates that if Marijuana were legal and the value greatly reduced; the motivation to risk trafficking anywhere near a school would also diminish.

Thanks for the thread, Soylent Brice.

my kids see the dinosaurs on the billboard and get all excited. i have to explain to them it's not what they think. it's a good thing that the museum of natural science in history had a dinsoaur exhibit for a long while. took them there, and they had a blast.

17. Very true.
According to the guidelines I read a while back, the police say a plant that's less than five feet tall is one kilo of marijuana, and a plant over five feet is two kilos.

So...536.8 pounds of marijuana in the 244 live plantss, plus the five pounds that are ready to sell, comes to somewhere around 246.27 kilos of marijuana. Extract it all the way down, and you come out with $57.68/ounce pot.

According to the March 2010 Trans High Market Quotation database at http://hightimes.com/lounge/ht_admin/6329, the price of Kush in Covington, KY, is $600 per ounce. Either the Florence cops are setting prices based on what pot cost when they were in high school in the 1960s, or this man grows the worst ditch weed on the face of the planet.

can you harvest two kilos from a single indoor plant? Why don't they just call it $10 Million worth of drugs? That would be just as stupid.

22. Going back too many decades ........
we used to have duffel bags FILLED with weed (bagged in assorted large quantities) dropped from a helicopter near a suburban airport after being loaded from a tractor trailer up from Texas on a nearby farm. The copter then continued to it's next stop while 'spraying' mosquitoes in the Jersey 'meadows'.

Ah the good old days. THAT was a major league operation........5 lbs, shit that's a single night's business today.

24. ROFLMFAO! $500,000 for 5lbs?
Ok for the non pot smoker let me talk price here just for a moment. STREET price for a quarter oz of high end kick as weed is $100. $120 if you are in a more remote area. So at $400 an oz with 16 oz's in a pound you are looking at a max street price of $6400.. and that is FULL RETAIL folks.

Gee funny how 5 lbs at $6400 a pound works out to EXACTLY $50,000. I guess it was pretty easy to add another zero there...

25. Look a little upthread...the $500,000 was for ALL the weed, not just the RTU weed
He had five pounds of Ready to Use (RTU) cannabis and a couple hundred plants. I broke it down to less than $60 per ounce for this shit...and let me tell you something: you will get just as high smoking the jar of Italian seasoning in your spice cabinet as you will smoking $60/ounce ditch weed.

29. Yes, you "broke it down." But you used
a kilo or two per plant as your measure. That's just silly. The more likely harvest per plant is 10-30 X less than that. And that's assuming they had 200+ mature plants, which they almost certainly didn't. If they found that many plants in one house, most were almost certainly in early stages of growth, likely many starter clippings etc. Calling those two kilos of weed is absurd. You could buy those same starters for $10. THATs the real street value. You might as well consider a bag seeds to be 20 pounds of pot.

These numbers are just obviously concocted for publicity and/or financial benefit. Why would you play along with them?

Hint to law enforcement: It is a plant, it is easy to grow. You are wasting your time. Get a fucking life.
