A Mount Dora doctor posted a sign telling Obama health care supporters to go elsewhere.

MOUNT DORA — A doctor who considers the national health-care overhaul to be bad medicine for the country posted a sign on his office door telling patients who voted for President Barack Obama to seek care "elsewhere."

"I'm not turning anybody away — that would be unethical," Dr. Jack Cassell, 56, a Mount Dora urologist and a registered Republican opposed to the health plan, told the Orlando Sentinel on Thursday. "But if they read the sign and turn the other way, so be it."

The sign reads: "If you voted for Obama … seek urologic care elsewhere. Changes to your healthcare begin right now, not in four years."

Estella Chatman, 67, of Eustis, whose daughter snapped a photo of the typewritten sign, sent the picture to U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson, the Orlando Democrat who riled Republicans last year when he characterized the GOP's idea of health care as, "If you get sick, America … Die quickly."

Chatman said she heard about the sign from a friend referred to Cassell after his physician recently died. She said her friend did not want to speak to a reporter but was dismayed by Cassell's sign.

"He's going to find another doctor," she said.

Cassell may be walking a thin line between his right to free speech and his professional obligation, said William Allen, professor of bioethics, law and medical professionalism at the University of Florida's College of Medicine.

5. Bless this man for his honesty! Who wants an idiot for a doctor?
And any doctor who would put up a sign like this is an idiot!

Thank you, Doctor! May your wish for early retirement come true!

9. If he was an outstanding doc with a good bedside manner

AND we both kept politics out of the equation, yes. Good docs are hard to find. However, he's pre-emptively letting the world know he's a dick, so he wouldn't have to worry about me walking through his door.

I don't know about you all, but the last thing I'd be wanting to do if a doc was messing with my body parts or had instruments someplace, would be to have a conversation about ANY controversial topic - especially religion and politics!

if he is a "staunch teabagger" and vocal about his politics, I would not be going to him.

If he stays away from political discussion (as I will), then I would go to him based on how good a Doc I consider him to be.

There are two places I used to "frequent" that I now refuse to spend any money at - Vermont Teddy Bear and Oreck vacuums. Both came out strongly in favor of bush - and hence immediately lost my business. Had they remained neutral (at least publicly), then I would continue to spend money on their products.

8. Is anyone willing to put his rhetoric to the test?
Who among us is willing to serve as a test case by seeking medical services and then announcing support for Barack Obama & the HCR bill to this crazy fuck? I'd be a bit leery about telling him that I'm in opposition to his nutzo proclamation and then putting my 'old fellow' literally in his hands. After all, he's already turned his back on the Hippocratic Oath, so have his ethics degenerated to the point that he will no longer do no harm? I'm not willing to endure a malpractice suit, as even a win could be cold comfort to my injured willie.

14. i think this is especially positive. let all doctors put up a sign to let us know who WE dont want
to use.

who wants a doctor that has so little ability to care for a patient without allowing political beliefs to interfer. i dont want that doctor. if i were a repug and voted mccain, i wouldnt use the doctor. tells me something about his ability i would have never known. but something i would appreciate knowing before deciding on him

he serves us. not the other way around

18. What does a patient's politics have to do with their treatment.
I could only suppose that he extents the same thinking to personal choices of religion and what's for dinner. I guess he thinks he is being pissed on.

This made me recall the story that Jesus related about the Good Summaritan. For those who are unaware the Jews regarded the Sammaritans to be unbelivers to be shunned similar to the Tea baggers' hatred of their fellow mankind especially if they are Black. While all the good Jews wouldn't stop to help the man who had been attacked by robbers, it was the despised Sammaritan that stopped and aided the Jew. WWJD
