I feel like I'm living in the middle of a Tom Clancy novel...
Middle-of-the-road minority President manages somehow to get a corporate-friendly somewhat populist Healthcare bill through both Houses of Congress, Minority Party rebels and is abusive to the individual and the process, problems in the Middle East, and apparently a militia-bust in which there are rumors of stadium attacks or worse, right during the Passover/Easter Holiday.

Wow...

4. and gushing, adoring aw-shucks-ism with characters with cardboard depth
A person can get rich doing stuff like that, just look at L. Ron Hubbard.

And Clancy's writing is Shakespeare compared to the first-grade scribblings of Hubbard.

11. I'm thinking Hunter S. Thompson
Fear and Loathing in Searchlight

Simply replace the psychoactive drugs with brain-addling ideology.
