Pelosi: Complaints should be about insurer tactics
http://thehill.com/homenews/house/87173-pelosi-gop-should-complain-about-insurance-company-tactics

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Tuesday tried to turn GOP attacks on Democratic procedural tactics against Republicans.

Pelosi said the GOP should be complaining about the tactics of private insurance companies.

“If you want to talk about process, let’s talk about the process that the insurance companies use when they say to you, ‘When you become sick, your insurance is cancelled.’ When they say to you ‘You’re on your way to an operation, but your insurance is rescinded because we just feel like it, and we can do it so we will.’” Pelosi said at a press conference. “Or what they say when they say to somebody, ‘You have a preexisting condition and so you cannot have health insurance.’

“Let’s talk about that process,” the Speaker continued. “If you want to have some outrage about process, let’s apply it to the insurance companies.”

1. Eliminate, or at least marginalize (for now) the insurance comapnies. They add nothing but cost and

pain. The fact that this bill benefits them instead of relegating them to the history books is the outrage here.

2. This bill is all about regulation
It's the insurance industry's worst nightmare.

Please quit lying about the bill.

4. Can you believe this bull?
Am I reading DU today, or some "other" site? Honestly, someone spilled the Kool-Aid all over this place!

The lies... the ignorance! It's astounding!

They don't even bother to read the bill, let alone the regulatory changes! It's fairly disgusting... really.

It needs to start with regulation! That alone will keep many people from losing their insurance and hence their health care.

It's very sad around here...

6. There's no 'lie' here, champ. The insurance companies are going along with this.
Same with Pharma. If it were actual 'regulation' they wouldn't.

10. The word in that post was 'relegate' not 'regulate'
The point being they need to be dismissed from the scene, not given a shorter leash. I'm not agreeing or disagreeing at this time, just saying that 'relegate' is not the same word as regulate. Enjoy!

11. That would be illegal.
The government can't shut down legal, established industries wholesale.

15. Do you know how the insurance companies got so big and powerful?
They pay big bucks for great lawyers who can find loopholes. They might take on a sick person, but you can be sure they won't lose money on him.

16. Hypothetically speaking, you mean...
You have nothing on which to base that assumption... again, did you read it? No, you didn't... or you would understand why your statement makes no sense.

17. Yes, I've read it. If you accept it at face value you're very naive.
By the way, DiFi's amendment to control rate increases just got tossed by the parliamentarian.

18. Textbook Example Of How Lobbying Works...
Hate them as you will but the insurance lobby has done a good job with making this debate last as long as it has and as painful. The ugly truth is many who looked at any type of reform knew this would be the case...the initial, and overambitious hope of this administration was to get this thing done quick (remember how President Obama initially predicted the bill would be a done deal by LAST Memorial Day???). The longer it dragged on the more it got watered down and all sorts of distortions turned into "fact" by various proponents. They didn't just muddy the water, they made it into a mud slick.

This also was a battle of an entire entrenched corporate establishement against government...they spent tons of money to get their deregulation and monopolies and they're not gonna give it up without a fight. Look at the Chamber of Commerce...they've got a dog in many of the hunts ahead (immigration, cap & trade) and as DeMint said, this was to be "Obama's Waterloo"...stop him here and you can fracture the Democrats and serve the corporate masters.

While far from a perfect bill, the passage of HCR will be a major blow to the interests who feel they control and dominate the government...a power they're not going to give up easy and the sooner we counter it with people power the better chance to make a change that will matter.

19. Obama blew it bit time.
He should have followed FDR's example of how to do it when FDR created Social Security. He should have simply picked a commission have them draw up legislation to open Medicare to anyone who wanted to join and would negotiate with the pharmaceutical industry in addition to opening up that market to manufactures outside the county. For those who were happy with their insurance, fine they could keep on enriching the Health Care Insurance rip-offs. He should have pushed for an up and down vote in the House and Senate instead of setting the stage for a protracted discussion of its merits that has allowed the opposition to launch a propaganda campaign to spread out right distortions and mislead the citizens.
